The Authority for Family Law and Parental Support is a knowledge authority under the Ministry of Social Affairs responsible for parental support, family counseling, and family law under the municipal social boards. The authority also works to ensure that international adoptions of children to Sweden are conducted legally and ethically. The authority is also tasked with providing support to internationally adopted individuals in connection with origin searches. The authority's target groups are professionals and decision-makers in municipalities, regions, and civil society, as well as families and individuals.

In all our activities, we promote children's rights as expressed in the Convention on the Rights of the Child. At MFoF, we agree that equal conditions and gender equality are part of our common values and should prevail in family, society, and working life. In 2022, MFoF also became Sweden's first LGBTQI-certified authority.

Responsibilities and tasks

As an investigator at MFoF, you will work in an existing team with other investigators in the department. The tasks involve both independent work and teamwork with other employees. The position of investigator is directly subordinate to the head of the department.

Among other tasks, the following are included:

  • Working on the revision of regulations, handbooks, and general advice within the field of family law.
  • Working on government assignments and knowledge development.
  • Driving knowledge development in the area.
  • Following research and other knowledge development within the authority's operational area, changes in the external environment, and other factors that affect the expectations and needs of the target groups.
  • Compiling and disseminating knowledge reports.
  • Working from a child rights perspective and based on knowledge of children's and young people's development, as well as violence in close relationships.
  • Collaborating with authorities, organizations, stakeholders, researchers, and practitioners.
  • Planning and leading meetings. Conducting presentations, both internally and for various actors at the national, regional, and local levels.

As an investigator, you will also perform usual tasks at the authority, such as responding to incoming inquiries and participating in joint authority and training days. The work will partly be carried out in project form with fixed time frames.

Qualification requirements

We are looking for someone who has:

  • A university degree with a focus on psychology, social work, behavioral science, or another education we deem relevant.
  • Several years of experience in family law work and authority exercise.
  • Experience working within a municipality/region or government authority.
  • Good knowledge of relevant and current legislation.
  • Very good knowledge of Swedish.
  • Good knowledge of English.
  • Digital competence, computer skills, and experience with video meetings.

It is meritorious if you have:

  • Experience in operational development, strategic work.
  • Experience in evaluating science and knowledge.
  • Experience in giving oral presentations and communicating results in a clear and engaging manner.
  • Knowledge of threats, violence, and other abuses in close relationships and the consequences they can have for children and adults.
  • Experience in compiling written materials and reports.
  • Knowledge of honor-related violence and oppression.

Your personal qualities

In this role, you need to have good collaboration skills and be able to contribute to a structured and flexible way of working with others. You take responsibility for your tasks and ensure that they are carried out according to existing routines. The work requires good analytical skills and sound judgment in situations where multiple issues need to be weighed against each other. You can easily prioritize between different tasks based on what is most important for the organization.

The employment

The employment is a permanent position (a 6-month probationary period applies) full-time with a start date by agreement. The place of employment is Skellefteå, but there is an opportunity to work remotely for employees living at a long commuting distance, in accordance with MFoF's guidelines for remote work. Individual salary setting applies.
