What will you be working on?
The work will include:
- Being a medical expert with specialist training in clinical microbiology, infectious medicine, general medicine, or pediatric medicine for expert support in one or more areas within infection control and preparedness, such as antibiotic resistance, healthcare hygiene, vaccinations, zoonoses, global health, and pharmaceutical preparedness.
- Participating in the agency's ongoing collaboration with external actors such as clinical microbiological laboratories, infection control units, healthcare hygiene units, antibiotic stewardship groups, clinical reference groups, as well as other authorities within the field of infection control and preparedness.
- Representing the agency as an expert in various national and international contexts, such as reference groups and other collaborative forms, within organizations like ECDC, HERA, and WHO.
- Contributing to and being able to lead the development and compilation of knowledge support, guidelines, recommendations, and other reports, as well as participating in the agency's quality assurance work.
- Performing other tasks that occur within the agency.
Who are we looking for?
Requirements for the position:
- Licensed physician with specialist training in any of the following areas: infectious medicine, clinical microbiology, general medicine, pediatric medicine, or another subject area that the employer deems relevant. License and specialist training must be approved in Sweden.
In addition, we see the following competencies, abilities, and experiences as important for you to thrive with us:
Great emphasis is placed on:
- Personal qualities such as good collaboration skills, being responsible, and strategic. You have a holistic perspective and a good attitude.
- Several years of experience working with various issues within infection control and preparedness in one or more of the following areas: antibiotic resistance, healthcare hygiene, vaccinations, zoonoses, global health, and pharmaceutical preparedness.
- Research training.
- Experience working at a regional, national authority, or other relevant public sector.
Significant emphasis is placed on:
- Experience writing reports, documents, and recommendations.
- Experience in international work and monitoring within the field.
- Very good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written.
- Experience with surveillance systems.
Emphasis is placed on:
- Experience participating in or leading collaborative groups or expert groups.
- Good knowledge of additional languages, preferably one of the UN languages.
What does the department do?
The Department of Infection Control and Preparedness monitors and analyzes the epidemiological situation for many of the reportable infectious diseases, investigates outbreaks, and follows, develops, and coordinates infection control at the national level, in order to take relevant actions together with regional infection control units and responsible authorities.
We coordinate and develop documents and recommendations regarding vaccinations and vaccination programs. We are also responsible for providing input to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for decisions on recommendations for travel to countries where there may be a risk of spreading infectious diseases.
We are responsible for the national coordination of efforts against antibiotic resistance. We monitor antibiotic consumption and the occurrence of antibiotic resistance and healthcare-associated infections to analyze, disseminate knowledge, and promote initiatives at the local and regional level.
The Public Health Agency of Sweden is a preparedness authority and must have a good ability to withstand threats, prevent vulnerabilities, manage peacetime crisis situations, and carry out our tasks during heightened readiness and war. The department coordinates and develops the agency's crisis management organization and war organization.

About the employment
You will be employed as an investigator based at our office in Solna or Östersund. The position is a permanent full-time employment that begins with a six-month probationary period. Start date will be as soon as possible by agreement.
As an employee of the Public Health Agency of Sweden, you may be placed in a war position. Some positions are classified where Swedish citizenship may be a requirement. Security screening will then be conducted in accordance with the Security Protection Act (2018:585).
At the agency, there may be an opportunity to enter into an agreement for remote work up to 40 percent of your working time.
