Project Description

The position will be part of the research project QUALREP, The Quality of Women’s Political Representation, which was originally awarded funding by the European Research Council and is now funded by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI). QUALREP examines the quality of women’s political representation in five European countries: Belgium, Poland, Portugal, Sweden, and the United Kingdom, using qualitative and quantitative methods. The project studies representation processes from a broad perspective, from actors and institutions to deliberation and decision-making processes across multiple arenas, as well as the outcomes of these processes, in order to highlight the quality of representation. For example, the project analyzes how civil society organizations in the five countries advocate for women’s interests. Ultimately, the project aims to explore how formal political institutions can be made more inclusive and representative, and how a more gender-equal and stronger democratic system and society can be realized.
