Workplace Description
The work with the police's data platform is carried out within the Data Processing group. Access to the right information at the right time is crucial for making the right decisions, and our deliveries are utilized across all parts of the organization, from management to operational work to monitoring various types of activities.
We are now looking for a data engineer to enhance our capabilities in this area. Your work will contribute to increasing safety and combating crime in Sweden. There is an opportunity to work from home up to two days a week.
Job Description
With us, you will work on refining and making data available to support the entire authority's operations. We deliver data products that enable everything from minute-to-minute operational situational reports to comprehensive follow-ups on crime-fighting efforts, which are used daily in investigations, intelligence, and operational activities.
The information landscape is not static, and the demand for data changes over time. The role involves ongoing contacts with various parts of the authority and also with external authorities and actors as needed.
The team has overall responsibility for new development, further development, and management, and as a data engineer, you will work closely with colleagues and the organization to understand needs and deliver the best solutions for those needs.
Typical tasks may include:
- Building automated data flows that transform, connect, and link data
- Modeling large data sets
- Monitoring current technologies
- Evaluating and implementing new technologies or components in the data platform
You will be offered a work environment characterized by variety alongside other colleagues in the Data Processing team. The team works self-organized according to agile principles and continuously delivers value to the organization. In your role, you will have great opportunities to influence your workday and the choice of working methods and technology.
Professional development is highly valued, and everyone in the group regularly has the opportunity for both operational practice and skill-enhancing activities based on needs and interests.
Qualifications
This is an opportunity for you who have:
- Relevant post-secondary education in IT, or equivalent acquired competence that the Police Authority assesses as equivalent
- At least 3 years of experience in SQL development, including experience handling complex transformations and functions such as window functions, CTE, and advanced joins
- Experience building data flows (ETL/ELT and/or streaming), including data transformations, in an on-premise (i.e., not cloud-based) environment
- Good ability to express yourself verbally and in writing in Swedish
The employment requires Swedish citizenship.
Desirable
It is beneficial if you have competence in one or more of the following desirable skills and technologies, but you do not need to have expertise in everything, as you will have the opportunity to learn and develop on-site with us.
- Experience with version control and GitOps
- Experience programming in Python
- Geographic analysis and transformation of data
- Graph databases
- Data modeling for analysis
- Container-based environments
Personal Qualities
Personal qualities are often as important as technical skills for a group's development and dynamics. In the role of data engineer, you will interact with many individuals and groups within the authority, so it is crucial that you are communicative and proactive. Additionally, you should have good collaboration skills, be responsible, and detail-oriented with the ability to see the bigger picture.
Furthermore, we see you as someone with a broad technical interest, especially regarding data issues, who is engaged and driven, where we value your desire to develop, learn new things, and share your expertise.
We will place great emphasis on your personal suitability and your personal qualities.
