Our Operations
Within the Department of Imaging and Functional Medicine Center (BFC), about 350 people work and we perform approximately 200,000 examinations and treatments annually. Almost 100,000 examinations are performed acutely, the other half are scheduled examinations. We are a highly specialized operation that focuses long-term on research and development. Here, radiologists have the opportunity to develop and grow.
The BFC's section for ultrasound and gastrointestinal radiology consists of two units:
- Ultrasound Unit: Conducts both planned and acute operations, examining both inpatients and outpatients. We perform both diagnostic and interventional ultrasound examinations, mostly within the abdominal region but also examinations of, for example, the neck, scrotum, and extremities are common. A significant portion of our examinations are performed with intravenous contrast media. Interventional procedures, including various types of biopsies and drainage insertions, are performed daily. We also participate in some clinical studies in collaboration with clinics or other actors.
- Gastro Unit: Primarily works with computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the abdominal region to assess pathology mainly in the liver, bile ducts, pancreas, spleen, and gastrointestinal tract. Various types of fluoroscopy examinations are also included. We assess both acute and scheduled examinations. The Gastro Unit is responsible for several multidisciplinary conferences, where we, together with various specialties from Uppsala University Hospital and the Central Sweden region, contribute to the regional highly specialized care. The conferences provide excellent opportunities for development and experience exchange.
