Area of Operations: Women's Health Care
We are Akademiska sjukhuset – one of Sweden's leading university hospitals. As a regional hospital and provider of highly specialized care, we offer care to two million people in Central Sweden. Something is always happening here – a new life is born, a grandmother is operated on, a colleague is hailed as a hero. With us, you will experience both tough challenges and fantastic events, in a strong community with colleagues. See parts of our reality in our photo exhibition; akademiskafotoutstallning.se (https://akademiskafotoutstallning.se). Welcome with your application!
Our Operations
Obstetrics is a section within the area of women's health care that includes the delivery ward, the maternity ward, and obstetric specialist clinics. About 4,000 women give birth with us each year. We also have an induction clinic and a joint emergency department for gynecology and obstetrics (AGO). For us, you as an employee are important, and together we create a good working environment. We value community, collaboration, and well-being. Our work to develop women's health care is ongoing, and our goal is to provide our patients with the best care.
In our maternity ward, we care for pregnant women with complicated pregnancies who need investigation and treatment. We also take care of new families with specific care needs after childbirth. All planned cesarean sections are admitted to the maternity ward and are cared for by midwives and nursing assistants pre- and post-operatively. We actively work with zero separation to promote bonding and breastfeeding. We also take responsibility for the care of mildly premature infants in close collaboration with the Neonatal unit. A large part of the maternity care for healthy women and children is managed by the midwives in home care (BB care at home).
Our delivery ward has thirteen universal rooms, two of which are equipped with bathtubs. In 2026, a separate but nearby small unit will be built, where patients with a healthy pregnancy, expected normal delivery, and anticipated continued home care after birth can be received and give birth. In that unit, we will have access to bathtubs in all delivery rooms.
We strive to work with one midwife per birthing person in active labor. We work to involve parents in the care to create participation during the care period. Here you can read more about what it is like to work with us Work as a midwife at Akademiska sjukhuset (https://www.akademiska.se/arbeta-hos-oss/vara-olika-omraden/arbeta-som-barnmorska-pa-akademiska-sjukhuset/).
Your Mission
With us, you will work in highly competent teams with midwives, nurses, nursing assistants, and doctors. We are always there for each other, and we have close collaboration with our colleagues. We focus on taking care of our patients in the best possible way and with very high quality. In obstetrics, you will develop your profession by working in several parts of the operations. Competence development and cross-professional knowledge exchange are part of the work. As we are a university hospital, we also have a close collaboration with Uppsala University, and students are also involved in the teamwork. Providing the patient, the woman, the child, and the family with the best possible care is a given for us. Likewise, respect for people's different thoughts, cultures, opinions, and values.
