Job Advertisement: Research Technician in Catch-and-Release Fishing

Job Responsibilities
The position involves independently conducting scientific catch-and-release fishing with a rod according to standardized research protocols.
The employee will also assist in field sampling of wild fish, including capture, handling, measurement, and documentation. The role also includes the operation and maintenance of research equipment, such as electrofishing equipment and instruments related to telemetry. The position also includes assistance with aquarium care and fish husbandry at the university, including basic tank maintenance and monitoring of water quality. The work requires careful and ethical handling of fish and collaboration with the research group to support ongoing experimental work.
Requirements
- Relevant education in biology, ecology, environmental science, or a related field
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Experience with electrofishing
- Experience in field sampling of wild fish (capture, handling, measurement)
- Ability to independently conduct catch-and-release fishing with a rod
- Experience in the safe handling of large predatory fish (e.g., pike) during landing, unhooking, measuring, and release
- Ability to follow standardized research protocols
- Experience in aquarium care and husbandry of fish in captivity
Additional Qualifications
- Experience in boat handling
- Basic skills in data logging, annotation, or spreadsheet management
- Experience with animal welfare principles or ethical animal handling
- Good collaboration skills and communication abilities
- Previous participation in field-based ecological or fisheries-related research
We are looking for a reliable, self-motivated individual who can work independently both in the field and in a laboratory environment. The applicant should be able to take responsibility for assigned tasks and perform them with high accuracy and professionalism. Strong practical skills and confidence in executing procedures independently are essential.
