In our department, we care for patients in two medical specialties. Our patients are primarily treated for various types of blood disorders (hematological diseases) as well as gastrointestinal and liver diseases (gastroenterological diseases). The hematological patients are treated with chemotherapy, antibody therapy, transfusions, and autologous stem cell transplantation. On the gastrointestinal and liver side, we provide a lot of intravenous treatment and biological medications. We also care for patients before and after liver transplantation. The team consists of nursing assistants and registered nurses as well as discharge coordinators.

The medical area is one of the university hospital's largest and is organizationally divided into five sections: endocrinology and diabetes, gastroenterology, hematology, nephrology, and general internal medicine. Here, we care for patients with diabetes, gastrointestinal diseases, blood disorders, kidney diseases, and patients who need acute internal medical care, often elderly and multi-sick patients. Each section has an outpatient clinic. There are also three wards for admitted patients.

Örebro University Hospital (USÖ) is one of the county's three acute hospitals where we provide advanced medical care, research, and education. Both in 2020 and 2019, USÖ received the prestigious award for Best University Hospital from the magazine Dagens Medicin. USÖ won the most significant category for medical quality, had the best results in the categories of accessibility, economy, and in avoiding pressure ulcers and overcrowding. USÖ also tops the results in the areas of heart, kidney failure, and vascular surgery. USÖ has about 3,500 employees.
