Our Operations

Traffic and community planning are highly prioritized issues in the municipality, and both challenges and opportunities are significant.

The Traffic Unit is a relatively newly established unit within the Community Development Department, currently with four employees. The plan is to grow to six employees by 2026, and the creation of a position as Traffic Strategist is an important part of this development. We have many exciting projects, and extensive work is underway to set the direction forward through a mobility and accessibility plan for the municipality. There is also a great need for the development of strategies for a sustainable transport system and what measures Värmdö should take to enable sustainable choices for citizens. Ensuring good accessibility for various traffic modes within a limited infrastructure through wise, strategic prioritization is a crucial issue for the municipality's future development opportunities.

The Community Development Department is a new department within the Community Building Office as of January 1, 2026. Here, central parts of the physical community planning process in the municipality are gathered. The department is responsible for strategic community planning, comprehensive planning, as well as planning work, land and development issues, traffic planning, and project implementation. The proximity between the various units creates good conditions for successfully working together on important community development issues.

Your Mission

As a Traffic Strategist at Värmdö Municipality, you will work alongside traffic planners in the Traffic Unit and other employees in the Community Development Department to ensure a long-term sustainable development of mobility in the municipality. You will participate as a traffic expert in comprehensive planning and work with structure plans, and develop holistic solutions in interaction between urban planning and mobility needs. You will collaborate with and represent Värmdö in strategic discussions and projects with the Swedish Transport Administration and the Traffic Authority to ensure development that aligns with the municipality's wishes and visions for traffic, accessibility, and community development. If necessary, you will drive projects and investigations/pre-studies together with the unit's traffic planners to develop the municipality's plans and management in important areas for accessibility and mobility.

Your Experience

• Several years (at least 3 years) of documented experience in strategic work with traffic issues, preferably within comprehensive planning, structure plans, and programs or other strategic investigations and projects.
• At least 5 years of combined professional experience in the community building field.
• Good experience in project management/process management and coordination within traffic/infrastructure.
• Very good knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written.
• Good knowledge of the Office suite and computer skills.
• Experience working in a politically governed organization.

Meritorious:

• Knowledge in strategic investigation work.
• Experience in change management within mobility issues.
• Documented process leadership training.
• Advanced education in sustainable urban development, climate adaptation, or digitalization of traffic systems.
• Driver's license (B).
