Myfab is a national research infrastructure whose task is to support outstanding research and innovation with advanced equipment in cleanroom environments. Myfab Uppsala is part of the Department of Materials Science, where the goal is to be an environment for successful and valuable research and education focused on materials science solutions for important societal challenges.

About Myfab Uppsala

Myfab Uppsala offers equipment and processes for the manufacture of structures and components with the smallest dimensions in the nanometer scale, as well as for material analysis and characterization. The operations are mainly conducted in a 2,000 m2 cleanroom with more than 150 pieces of equipment. Examples of instrument groups include lithography, etching, thin film deposition, and electron microscopy.

The laboratory is an open resource with a large number of users. Most come from research groups in engineering or natural sciences, but many are based in other scientific fields, universities, or companies.

Your Responsibilities

As an Equipment Engineer at Myfab Uppsala, you will play a central role in ensuring an efficient and well-functioning laboratory operation. The work involves being responsible for the function of several research instruments. This includes regularly performing maintenance and calibrations to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation, as well as diagnosing and addressing faults in the instruments. You will follow instructions from the manufacturers of the instruments and create your own routines for optimal maintenance, while also contributing technical expertise in connection with, for example, new investments in instruments.

Your tasks may also include responsibility for inventory management of critical spare parts and consumables, establishing and maintaining documentation regarding equipment, as well as responsibility for laboratory systems that supply the equipment with necessary media, such as for cooling or vacuum.

Laboratory operations are a team effort where you and other staff are expected to contribute to the whole. You will work closely with the laboratory's process engineers to achieve the best possible performance of the research equipment. You will act as an expert resource and actively work to create a well-functioning laboratory environment. The position also includes ongoing contact with manufacturers and suppliers to ensure that our knowledge and the functions of the equipment are always up to date.

The role of Equipment Engineer involves both independent work and close collaboration with other stakeholders. As part of Myfab Uppsala, you are expected to actively contribute to a well-functioning research environment and support the laboratory's users in their daily work.

Qualifications

Requirements for the position

  • Education in a relevant field, such as mechanics or electrical engineering, or competence that the employer assesses as equivalent.
  • Several years of practical experience in advanced technical maintenance and repairs of technical equipment.
  • Good ability to communicate in Swedish and English, both orally and in writing.
  • Basic computer skills.

Desirable/Preferred

We are looking for someone who works with a service-oriented attitude and who actively contributes to the laboratory's overall operations. We would like you to have a strong interest in technology and a proven ability to solve technical problems.

The following are also considered meritorious:

  • Experience working in a laboratory environment, especially in cleanroom environments.
  • Expertise or proven competence in one or more of the following areas: mechanical systems, control electronics, gas distribution, vacuum systems, process or analytical equipment.

The work is primarily conducted in a cleanroom environment and places high demands on accuracy, safety, and quality. We place great importance on personal qualities, such as initiative, independence, and the ability to work effectively, both individually and together with others. Consideration may also be given to how your experience and skills complement and strengthen the technical profile within the staff group.
