ABOUT THE POSITION
Nordregio is a leading Nordic research institute focusing on regional development and planning. Our mission is to provide decision-makers and practitioners with the knowledge and tools needed to support sustainable and inclusive development in and outside of the Nordic region.
We conduct research that guides policy towards a thriving and sustainable Nordic region, in line with the Nordic vision of becoming the world's most sustainable and integrated region. As a Data Analyst, you will play a central role in supporting project managers and other analysts in tasks related to statistical projects within the Nordic cooperation with political decision-makers, media, and other stakeholders. You will join a newly established team focused on producing and presenting statistical data in an easy-to-understand manner, which will serve as a basis for crucial decisions at the highest political level.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities
The role involves designing and implementing data collection as well as harmonizing and publishing statistical data. Additionally, you will work on maintaining databases and communicating results clearly, understandably, and usefully. You will be an important part of building new processes, working methods, and approaches to produce and communicate statistical data to, for example, political decision-makers, civil servants, and media.
- Update and maintain data in the two existing databases
- Handle data using statistical tools where you will also program in, for example, R or Python
- Produce and interpret results to present them in an educational manner
- Communicate results to various stakeholders within the Nordic region
- Contribute to organizing events to communicate statistics, through physical and digital seminars as well as posts on social media or in newsletters
- Provide support to internal and external users of the statistical databases

The work is under development, without ready-made manuals, where a permissive culture and "learning by doing" is the way forward.
- Have an academic master's degree (300 ECTS) in relevant disciplines for managing, analyzing, and communicating quantitative data (e.g., economics, demography, computer science, statistics, sociology, political science, cultural geography, urban planning, environmental science)
- Have at least 1-2 years of work experience, preferably in a relevant field for the position
- Have good knowledge of data management and data analysis
- Have experience programming in Python, R, or another similar language for data management or data analysis
- Are fluent in English and one Scandinavian language (Swedish, Danish, or Norwegian)
- Have a strong desire to learn and develop
It is meritorious if you have:
- Programming skills in Python
- Experience managing statistical databases
- Work experience in statistical work within a government agency (e.g., Statistics Sweden, regional or municipal operations, Eurostat, or OECD)
