Department of Education and Didactics (IPD)
The Department of Education and Didactics (IPD) is one of the largest departments at Stockholm University. We provide education for nearly 8,000 students each year and have approximately 140 employees – including around a hundred researchers and teachers, about forty doctoral students, and a comprehensive administrative organization.
Research at the department is organized into several research groups with different educational focuses, such as SOUL – focusing on school leadership and school development. IPD is also the host institution for the national R&D network for schools facing significant challenges, conducted together with six other universities with the aim of developing and disseminating knowledge to strengthen equity in education.

About the Assignment
School collaboration is a central and growing part of the department's assignment activities. The role of project coordinator encompasses three main areas:
- to have overall responsibility for the leadership and implementation of targeted initiatives
- to contribute to and, when necessary, carry out specific collaborative initiatives
- to drive and further develop the department's offerings in collaboration with the school sector and the surrounding community.
The role includes overall responsibility for establishing and further developing assignments and projects in collaboration with school authorities and other stakeholders, with the goal of ensuring a long-term sustainable and self-financed assignment operation.
In addition, you are expected to lead and actively participate in the work of the R&D network.
Targeted initiatives are a government assignment to the National Agency for Education carried out in close dialogue with school authorities. The purpose is to strengthen knowledge outcomes and equity – with a particular focus on schools facing significant challenges, such as low goal achievement or a high proportion of students who do not complete their education.
Job Responsibilities
You will lead the department's overall development projects to strengthen the collaboration assignment. The work currently includes four sub-projects and takes place in close collaboration with the R&D network and the principal training program.
The assignment further entails:
- leading and coordinating work related to Targeted Initiatives both internally at the university and externally in collaboration with the National Agency for Education and other school authorities
- in dialogue with school authorities, designing and sometimes participating in tailored development initiatives
- contributing to strategic and long-term relationships with our collaboration partners.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone who has:
- a doctoral degree in social sciences, preferably with a focus on governance, leadership, school development, or organization
- documented experience in initiating, leading, and implementing larger – preferably national – collaborative and development projects within the education sector
- solid experience in development work in the education sector and a good habit of working together with actors from different organizations and levels.
It is an advantage if you have worked both within and outside academia, have experience from other parts of the public sector, and previous leadership or managerial roles.
You have a strong commitment to practice-oriented development and are motivated by creating results together with others. You are unpretentious and relationship-building, and thrive in collaborations with many different stakeholders. At the same time, you take initiative, work independently, and drive processes forward. The role requires good communication skills – the ability to clearly convey goals, vision, and direction. You can handle multiple issues simultaneously, prioritize wisely, and maintain focus even in complex contexts. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.
About the Employment
The employment is permanent full-time with a six-month probationary period. Stockholm University applies individual salary setting. Start date according to agreement.
