JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
As a probation officer, you will be responsible for clients sentenced to probation and clients who are conditionally released and under supervision. You may also work with intensive supervision with electronic monitoring, commonly known as an ankle monitor, and community service. In probation, we also conduct personal investigations for district court and court of appeal hearings and assess proposed sanctions. The work within probation largely consists of meeting clients, conducting investigative work, and risk and needs assessments, as well as establishing plans for enforcement. As a probation officer, you may also lead treatment programs.
The role of a probation officer broadly involves actively motivating clients to make lifestyle changes. This occurs through structured case management conversations based on CBT, motivating clients to participate in program activities, and encouraging clients who are incarcerated to engage in release preparations.
