Want to Help Reduce the Environmental Impact of Shipping?

We make society function for people on the road, on tracks, in the air, and at sea.

That’s why we need the best expertise. Our mission is important and has significance in everyday life – both for individuals and businesses. With us, we take responsibility, treat everyone well, and respect differences. As an employee, you contribute to a sustainable future.

About the Job

Transport is essential for goods and people to arrive where they need to be. In the environmental section, we work to reduce the negative environmental impact of transport from shipping and aviation. In this role, you will collaborate with other competent colleagues at the agency, engage in dialogue with other authorities, and interact with relevant parties internationally.

Your area of work will focus on environmental issues within the shipping sector. The section works in various ways to reduce emissions to air and water, and you will primarily work in the areas of oils and chemicals, cargo residues, and ballast water, but tasks may vary. For example, this may involve representing Sweden at meetings with the shipping's international UN body IMO, within HELCOM, and the EU.

Other issues within the section's or department's area of responsibility may also arise. The position includes travel, both domestically and internationally.

You Are Important to Us

Do you enjoy working collaboratively with others and want to develop in your professional role? With us, you can expect career development, a trusting leadership and employee relationship, and a sustainable work life. We are a secure employer who cares about your health with time for wellness during work hours, flexible working hours, a generous number of vacation days, and time off on bridge days.

You will, among other things:

  • drive the work of developing regulations and control measures to reduce the environmental impact of shipping, including describing and analyzing the consequences of proposed regulations
  • collaborate internationally, within the EU, and cooperate with other Swedish authorities, as well as engage in dialogue with industry organizations
  • write background documents and respond to inquiries from the Government Offices
  • answer questions from the public and other stakeholders, as well as respond to consultations
  • process applications for permits and exemptions
  • support the Transport Agency's supervisory staff with expertise.

You Must Have

  • a university degree, e.g., marine engineer, chemical or environmental engineer, environmental science, or another degree we deem relevant
  • current work experience in environmental issues or another relevant area
  • good ability to express yourself verbally and in writing in both Swedish and English.

It Is Meritorious If You Also Have

  • experience working on ships or other relevant experience in shipping.
  • technical expertise, e.g., related to maritime transport of oil and chemicals.
  • worked in a government agency
  • experience in regulatory development
  • experience reading and interpreting legal texts
  • experience working with investigations or other strategic work
  • experience in international negotiations, development work, or similar.

We Want You to

  • be self-driven, meaning you take responsibility for your task. Structure your approach and drive the work forward.
  • have good collaboration skills, meaning you work well with others. Relate to them in a responsive and smooth manner. Listen, communicate, and resolve conflicts constructively.
  • be goal and result-oriented, meaning you work towards goals and focus on results. Guided by goals and result thinking in prioritization, planning, and action. You change your direction when goals change.
  • be problem-solving, working well with complex issues. Analyze and break down problems into their components and solve complicated problems.
  • have specialist knowledge, meaning you understand the professional aspects of the work particularly well. Continuously maintain your specialist knowledge. Be a knowledge resource for others.

Great emphasis is placed on personal suitability.
