The IT department at Halmstad University is centralized and currently consists of about 20 employees. The department has a broad mandate and works to provide strategic and operational support to the organization regarding the opportunities and challenges of the university's digital transformation.

Are You Our New Systems Engineer?

We are now looking for an experienced systems engineer who wants to help develop the technical infrastructure that supports our research, education, and innovation activities.

In your role on our team, you combine breadth with depth and contribute daily to supporting both education and research.

The role is technically demanding, and therefore we are looking for someone with several years of experience in system administration or engineering work in complex environments. You need to be comfortable with server operations in a Linux environment and experienced in working with virtualization and container technology.

You will be a key person in the work of operating and designing our identity services, setting up and administering servers, managing enterprise-class storage, and contributing to the GPU-based computing environment that our researchers and students use for machine learning and AI, as well as operating and configuring some of the department's infrastructure-related applications.

Your New Workplace

We work closely with education and research, focusing on creating good IT support for students and staff. In our mixed environment with both PC and Mac platforms, the work is varied and technically developing.

In the Role, You Will:

You might start your day by following up on the night’s runs in the GPU cluster – an environment you are responsible for and help develop. Then you test a new feature in our identity platform or improve an SSO solution so that users can work even more freely and seamlessly.

A little later, you experiment with a new service, build on a prototype, or improve a storage solution in the data center. You naturally move between terminal windows, server rooms, and idea-driven meetings.

And when the day is over, you know that you have not only kept the systems running – you have also been part of creating something that makes a difference for research, education, and innovation.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who has:

• Relevant university education in the IT field (or equivalent competence deemed comparable by the employer).
• At least 5 years of experience in a technically advanced operations or engineering role where your role has involved working with:
• administration and server operations in a Linux environment
• system configuration of virtualization environments.
• network protocols and infrastructure functions such as TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing, and segmentation.
• Good ability to express yourself in Swedish and English, both orally and in writing.

Important Skills

We are looking for someone who takes responsibility and works independently while having a strong quality awareness in everything you do. You have good analytical skills and can quickly grasp complex technical issues. The role requires you to collaborate well with others and contribute positively to the team's work. You also possess integrity and good judgment, which is important in an environment where we handle sensitive information and critical systems.

We consider it an advantage if you also have:

• Good knowledge of operations and configuration of data center storage and backup in an enterprise environment.
• Good knowledge of data center operations with redundancy, failover, and high availability.
• Experience configuring identity systems (IDP, SSO, federation, MFA).
• Experience operating, configuring, and troubleshooting GPU-based environments for calculations in machine learning and AI.
• Knowledge of scripting languages relevant for automation and system administration that the employer deems relevant for the role.
