About the Organization

FMTIS has a collective responsibility for the operation, maintenance, and management of the Swedish Armed Forces' technical command support systems. The systems support military operations at sea, on land, and in the air - in Sweden and abroad. Our responsibility encompasses the entire chain, from facilities and transmission and carrier networks to applications, servers, computers, and sensor systems. Work is conducted at strategic, operational, and tactical levels.

The systems unit is responsible for the management of technology and equipment in the Armed Forces' fixed command support systems, technical and infrastructural design, and architecture of the joint defense information infrastructure. The systems unit consists of a unit management, staff, and four departments comprising a total of approximately 200 employees distributed across about 15 locations in Sweden.

Main Responsibilities as a Systems Engineer (Civil Service)

The role of a systems engineer involves technical management of various types of communication systems such as IP networks, the Armed Forces' telecommunications network, radio links, Satcom, etc.

We are looking for someone who wants to work on coordinating the overall planning, direction, and follow-up of the management of technical systems.

  • Lead and/or participate in meetings with the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration, representatives from the industry, etc.
  • Participate in the entire lifecycle of the system from development, implementation to decommissioning with a focus on maintaining functionality over time.
  • Plan, budget, order, and follow up on preventive maintenance.
  • Propose improvements and in some cases implement modifications and upgrades.
  • Review maintenance documentation.

The main task is not to work directly with the technology but to focus on managing the administration and the resources available within the organization. You must have technical understanding and basic technical competence to guide specialists with deep technical expertise to use their knowledge in the right direction.

REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications

  • University degree or equivalent competence in (one or more of) IT/IP networks/Radiotechnology/Telecom/Telecommunications/Project Management.
  • Experience in development and/or management work within IT/Telecom or equivalent.
  • Driving license B.

DESIRABLE

In descending order of priority

  • Experience from working in the defense sector (in the Armed Forces or for the Armed Forces) for at least 5 years.
  • Experience with the Armed Forces' telecommunications network or national telecom operator.
  • Experience with IP networks.
  • Experience with radio links and/or frequency and time systems.
  • Language skills in technical English.
  • Experience in project management.
  • Experience with security products such as firewalls and cryptosystems.
  • Experience with Satcom.
  • Experience with budgeting.

Personal Qualities

We are looking for someone who is engaged and service-oriented, has an easy time making contact with people, and has a good ability to express themselves verbally and in writing. You are a good teammate while also taking initiative and responsibility. You have good administrative skills.

The employment is a civil permanent position with a 6-month probationary period.

Work location: We are recruiting this position to three different locations, so you can apply for the position with a work location in Halmstad, Karlskrona, or Luleå.
