Swedish Energy Agency seeks International Coordinator for Climate Collaborations

Your Responsibilities - Collaboration, Analysis, and International Representation

In this role, you will have a central position in the Swedish Energy Agency's international climate work, where you create new collaboration opportunities by initiating and driving strategic dialogue with host countries, donor countries, and other key stakeholders. You will review and evaluate collaboration and project proposals in line with Sweden's and the agency's strategic priorities, thereby contributing to steering efforts towards the greatest possible climate benefit. An important part of the assignment is to represent the Swedish Energy Agency and Sweden in international contexts, such as bilateral and multilateral dialogues, negotiations, delegations, conferences, and board meetings within climate funds. Through your work, you will help shape both the strategic direction and the practical implementation of Sweden's international climate collaboration. Travel will occur both nationally and internationally.

Qualifications

Mandatory Requirements

  • A university degree, at least three years of study, in areas such as economics, environment, technology, or other fields deemed equivalent by the Swedish Energy Agency
  • At least 5 years of relevant work experience in the energy and climate sector
  • Several years of experience in qualified work related to international energy, climate, or development cooperation
  • Very good ability to handle complex strategic issues and challenges
  • Knowledge and experience of working internationally with countries and international organizations and the ability to represent Sweden at international meetings while driving Sweden's priorities
  • Very good knowledge of both Swedish and international climate work
  • Good skills in both spoken and written Swedish and English, as well as good knowledge of IT systems and programs

Desirable Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the regulations for emissions trading under the Paris Agreement
  • Several years of experience working with climate policy, climate financing, or international climate investments
  • Good knowledge and experience in project financing and developing innovative financing solutions
  • Project implementation or similar work experience from Africa, Asia, or South America, preferably in the energy sector
  • Experience working in a government agency
  • Good knowledge of one or more of the following languages; French, Spanish, or Portuguese in spoken and written form
  • Experience leading working groups/teams

About Us

The Unit for International Climate Collaborations works to finance and develop emission-reducing measures in developing countries, as part of Sweden's climate policy. Together, we are 15 colleagues working internationally with a focus on climate collaboration, primarily through emissions trading between countries in accordance with Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. The Swedish Energy Agency has signed cooperation agreements with several developing countries and collaborates with a number of international development organizations. In the unit, we work in teams and in close collaboration with other partners. We also collaborate with governments, authorities, and organizations in the countries where we operate.

Good to Know

The position is a permanent employment with an initial six-month probationary period. Start date according to agreement. Positions within the Swedish Energy Agency may be placed in a security class, which means security screening and background checks according to the provisions of the Security Protection Act. Upon permanent employment, it may be relevant to be assigned to the agency in case of war.
