Psychologist at Habilitation Center

Do you want to contribute to a functioning everyday life with increased participation and good quality of life for our patients with lifelong disabilities? We are a pleasant workplace characterized by community and close collaboration between our various professional categories, as well as pride and strong commitment to our patients.

Job Responsibilities

With us, you will work with children, adolescents, and adults with disabilities from a life perspective. Your tasks will include mapping the patient's situation to identify strengths and difficulties, as well as assessing the need for support and interventions. The psychologist works both preventively and with difficulties that have arisen cognitively, communicatively, socially, adaptively, and emotionally due to the disability. The purpose of the interventions is to contribute to a functioning everyday life with increased participation and good quality of life. The psychologist conducts assessments and investigations and provides interventions directly to the patient and/or through parents, relatives, and networks. Interventions are provided during individual and team visits, home visits, visits to schools/preschools, workplaces/day activities, and through training for networks and relatives as well as group activities.

You will have the opportunity to work preventively and long-term for patients with challenges in the form of various disabilities. With us, you will apply your knowledge in learning psychology, cognitive psychology, neuropsychology, and developmental psychology while learning how rare diagnoses affect our patients' everyday functioning.

Regardless of our patients' diagnoses, our psychologists work to promote health, provide diagnostic information for patients and networks, and help translate how cognitive functioning affects everyday life.

In the team, the psychologist contributes their specific professional competence by spreading knowledge, providing information, collaborating, and prioritizing together with other team members. The psychologist adds psychological expertise in discussions regarding both patient cases and approaches and working methods in the teams, thereby also taking extra responsibility for perspectives on the entire habilitation process. In this way, the psychologist's work also supports the work carried out by other professions.

About the Workplace

The Habilitation Center is a specialist service that offers support and treatment to children, adolescents, and adults with intellectual disabilities, autism, or congenital, extensive, and permanent mobility impairments. Support regarding communication and cognition is offered to adults with acquired brain injuries. The Habilitation Center has approximately 150 employees distributed among our units in Västerås, Köping, and Fagersta.

You will have 18 psychologist colleagues in the organization and have a primary affiliation in a cross-professional team consisting of occupational therapists, physiotherapists, social workers, speech therapists, special educators, and dietitians, where you provide the psychological specialist competence. We have a close and good collaboration, and together we develop proposals for measures that facilitate the patient's living conditions in everyday life and in society. We also have a network-oriented working method that often occurs in collaboration with healthcare neighbors and authorities, such as the children's clinic, psychiatry, and municipal services.

Our employees are our most important resource, and we want you to thrive, feel good, and develop with us. We offer you:

  • work in a well-functioning organization that values you as an employee
  • to be part of a team with a collegial climate
  • an introduction program that includes participation in our internal training
  • access to a mentor to help you feel secure in your profession
  • regular supervision and an individual competence development plan
  • professional meetings with other colleagues within the organization
  • educational opportunities in habilitation as well as other relevant training
  • healthcare allowance of 3000 SEK/year

To thrive in the position, you need to have an interest in collaboration with internal and external partners.

Good computer skills and proficiency in Swedish, both spoken and written, are required for the position, as well as a B driver's license since travel between units is included in the job.

You can independently plan, organize, and prioritize your work effectively. You have the ability to adapt to different situations and people in a responsive and flexible manner.
