Do you want to work as an experienced marine geologist delivering important marine geological information to society? Then you might be the one we are looking for!
Job Responsibilities
As a marine geologist, you will belong to the marine geological division at SGU, which consists of dedicated employees with diverse backgrounds and experiences. The division works with information supply and runs several projects within marine planning, marine infrastructure, habitat mapping, and environmental monitoring. The work often takes place on behalf of or in close collaboration with other Swedish authorities, focusing on the green transition, a more robust society, and a stronger total defense. The position includes both office work and fieldwork aboard our research vessels.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone who has:
- a degree in geoscience at the university level with a focus on marine geology, marine science, geobiology, or equivalent education deemed relevant by the employer
- several years of experience in marine geological work
- experience with various types of marine geological equipment and sampling methods
- experience in planning and executing marine geological projects
- good knowledge of GIS software as well as processing and interpretation software for marine geological information
- excellent proficiency in Swedish and English, both spoken and written
Desirable experiences and skills:
- project management, particularly regarding marine collection assignments
- PhD education
- experience from working in the private sector regarding marine mapping
- experience from working in a government agency
Personal Qualifications
We are looking for someone who is self-driven, structured, and service-oriented with good collaboration skills. You have a strong linguistic analytical ability and can tackle complex materials and make holistic assessments with good judgment. You are positive and engaged and enjoy working both independently and in a team. We will place great emphasis on your personal qualities for this position.
About the Employment
Employment type: Permanent full-time position, with a six-month probationary period.

Work location: Uppsala or Gothenburg. Please indicate in your application which work location you are interested in. If you choose the Gothenburg office, there will also be business trips to the headquarters in Uppsala.
The position is security classified, and a security clearance including a background check will be conducted on the final candidate. Swedish citizenship and an approved security clearance are required before a hiring decision is made.
