Department of Animal Bioveterinary Sciences
We are looking for someone who enjoys laboratory work such as DNA sequencing, fermentation cultivation of E. coli, and purification of recombinant proteins, as well as protein analyses using gel techniques and ELISA. Part of the role also involves bioinformatics analyses of bacterial genomes and proteins.
About the job
The main task is molecular biology development work in the field of bacteriology, focusing on pathogenic bacteria such as Streptococcus suis, Streptococcus equi, and Staphylococcus aureus, but other pathogens may also be included, with the primary aim of developing new recombinant vaccines in close collaboration with a Swedish veterinary medicine company. The position involves a significant amount of laboratory work such as DNA sequencing of bacterial genomes, fermentation cultivation of E. coli, and purification of recombinant proteins using ÄKTA systems, protein analyses with gel techniques, and method development. A substantial part of the role is also bioinformatics.
Your background
Docent competence in a relevant subject for the position is required. You should have experience in protein expression in E. coli and purification of recombinant proteins, as well as methods to study these proteins such as SDS-PAGE and ELISA methods. You should have experience in DNA sequencing and possess bioinformatics competence to process and analyze results from sequencing projects. We also welcome experience with relevant bioinformatics tools for DNA and protein structure such as AlphaFold.
Experience with fermentation cultivation of E. coli and protein purification using systems such as ÄKTA is also meritorious. Knowledge and practical experience of Real-time polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) is also an asset. You should have a genuine interest in bacteriology and vaccine development, and enjoy combining extensive laboratory work with bioinformatics analysis.
We will place great emphasis on personal qualities such as commitment, creativity, responsibility, independence, as well as initiative and organizational skills. We work in a small group where we collaborate daily. Therefore, it is important that you have good communication skills and are easy to collaborate with. For the position, it is required that you master English in both spoken and written form, in addition to Swedish, as we work internationally.
