Our operational area includes geriatric and internal medicine inpatient and outpatient care, as well as palliative inpatient care and ASIH. In our clinics, we investigate and treat common major diseases such as cognitive impairment, osteoporosis, diabetes, stroke, and heart diseases. Our clinics also include a Diagnostic Center where patients with unknown primary tumors or nonspecific cancer symptoms are investigated, as well as a clinic for multimorbid elderly patients.

The geriatrics department at Södertälje Hospital is in an exciting phase of development with an expanded geriatric mission. In January-February 2026, our three geriatric wards will move to new, beautiful facilities with single rooms. At Södertälje Hospital, we see the care of the elderly as one of our most important profile areas, and we aim to be at the forefront of developing the future elderly care.

Our geriatric wards focus on rehabilitation, cognitive impairment, and acute geriatrics, where we have geriatric acute care beds (GAVA). The geriatric clinic includes cognitive clinics, osteoporosis clinics, and a clinic for multimorbid elderly patients. Our operational area also includes a department for specialized palliative care and ASIH.

We have a close collaboration with the emergency department and receive a high proportion of acute geriatric patients. Several exciting improvement and collaboration projects are ongoing, including a geriatric consultant in the emergency department.

You will have a varied job, mostly as the responsible specialist/chief physician for inpatients in the ward. In GAVA, you will be responsible for assessment, initial investigation, and planning of geriatric patients who are transferred here early from the emergency department. Placement in outpatient care may also be relevant, including in the Palliative department/ASIH after introduction/supervision. Clinical supervision is included in the assignment.

Your qualifications:

Requirements:
- Swedish medical license with specialist certification in geriatrics.
- For assistant chief physician, at least three years of combined clinical service in the specialty is required.
- For chief physician, at least five years of combined clinical service in the specialty is required.

Meritorious:
- Experience in supervision and/or teaching.
- Experience in defined areas of responsibility and knowledge.
- Actively driving development and improvement work.
- B driver's license.

Employment form:

Permanent employment, full-time.
As a specialist, you will participate in the on-call line.
