Faculty of Natural Resources and Agricultural Sciences
The Department of Molecular Sciences currently consists of approximately 90 employees and, together with three other departments, forms an inspiring research environment at Biocentrum on the Ultuna Campus in Uppsala.
The department's research revolves around various chemical and biological processes of significance for the transition to a sustainable society, often in collaboration with various industrial partners. The department has a well-developed infrastructure for the cultivation and characterization of anaerobic microorganisms and processes, such as anaerobic boxes, various types of bioreactors (lab-scale), and instruments for compositional analysis of gases and liquids (GC, HPLC, NMR, MS, etc.). Through the national platform SciLifeLab, access to advanced infrastructure for sequence analysis and bioinformatics is available. SLU also has its own infrastructure for support and training in bioinformatics.
The department provides education in the subjects of chemistry, food science, and microbiology at both undergraduate and advanced levels in educational programs leading to, among others, agronomy, bachelor's, and master's degrees. Read more about our activities and infrastructure here.
