We are looking for a highly senior Electrical Designer with expertise in exterior and interior vehicle lighting. You will be a key person in the design studio and act as the voice of design within the engineering organization. The assignment involves ensuring technically feasible, aesthetically strong, and compliant lighting solutions throughout the development chain – from concept to prototype and validation. 

Your responsibilities

Be the voice of design and communicate design intentions and needs within engineering.

Translate engineering requirements into design possibilities and vice versa.

Ensure that legal and technical requirements are understood and implemented in design.

Develop feasible solutions in technically challenging areas.

Drive, document, and follow up on agreements between design and engineering.

Support development with technical solutions that advance the design.

Document feasibility on design themes and highlight critical risks early.

Set up new lighting concepts in Catia and optical software.

Benchmark competitors and ensure competitive lighting solutions.

Tech scouting, workshops, and presentations with innovation companies and suppliers in the lighting field.

Stay updated on manufacturing methods and new technologies.

Expected deliveries

Feasibility documentation and decision support for design choices related to lighting.

New and updated lighting concepts in Catia V5 and optical simulation.

Documented requirement interpretations (technical + legal) and traceability between design/engineering.

Benchmark insights and recommendations for competitive lamp concepts.

Support for prototype development and documentation for validation tests.

Your profile

Technical university education or equivalent.

At least 10 years of experience in the automotive industry, with deep expertise in lamp technology.

Very good knowledge of lighting technology, engineering, and legal requirements.

Strong experience with Catia V5 and Teamcenter.

Adept at understanding design intentions and proposing technical solutions that realize them.

Experience in concept and component development for both exterior and interior lighting.

Very good understanding of the vehicle development process end-to-end.

Experience with physical prototypes to evaluate lighting concepts.

Fluent in English, both spoken and written.

Meritorious:

Experience with optical software (e.g., SPEOS, Lucidshape, LightTools).

Experience working in a design studio.

Mandarin in spoken and written form.

Personal qualities

Self-driven but equally comfortable in cross-functional teams. 

High delivery capacity and structured in your work approach.

Excellent communicator with good collaboration skills.
