Laboratory Technician for Clinical Pathology in Östersund

Clinical pathology is part of Laboratory Medicine, a regional organization with operations in Lycksele, Skellefteå, and Umeå.

Laboratory Medicine Västerbotten comprises approximately 500 employees and includes clinical pathology, clinical microbiology, healthcare hygiene, clinical genetics, clinical immunology and transfusion medicine, clinical chemistry, biobank, and tissue establishment. Through agreements, we have total responsibility for clinical pathology in Östersund, including medical management responsibility for immunology and transfusion medicine, clinical chemistry, and clinical microbiology.

The operations are accredited, and we work according to the quality system on which Laboratory Medicine's accreditation is based. At the clinical pathology laboratories, about 120 people work in Umeå and about 15 people in Östersund. Thanks to our rapid development and increasing number of analyses, staffing has been significantly expanded in recent years, and we have become a large group with strong cohesion, humor, and job satisfaction.

In Östersund, we work with patient samples from Jämtland County. We handle the histopathological process, and cancer diagnostics are performed at the cellular level using materials such as various tissues and cell suspensions.

RESPONSIBILITIES

As a laboratory technician with us, you provide essential service and enable efforts that contribute to a vital part of our cancer care. You will work in both the Histopathology and Cytology laboratories. Your responsibilities include, among other things:

  • Responsible for the pre-analytical phase of sample handling
  • Sample reception, registration in our patient data system, preparation of samples, and maintenance of equipment
  • Perform routine maintenance, restocking consumables, and cleaning
  • Work according to Laboratory Medicine's quality system

Your placement will be in the section in Östersund, but you may also contribute to department-wide tasks and support other sections within Clinical Pathology and Laboratory Medicine as a whole.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has a nursing assistant education or other equivalent education/experience.
  • Has good communication and collaboration skills.
  • Works meticulously, methodically, service-oriented, is self-driven, and takes great responsibility for your work.
  • Can work independently based on established written methods.
  • Has some computer skills and easily absorbs new knowledge.
  • Experience from working with healthcare-related information systems is valued.
  • Experience from healthcare departments/primary care is meritorious.
  • Great importance will be placed on personal suitability.
