Together we develop Sahlgrenska University Hospital for a sustainable future

We are transforming healthcare with the goal of becoming Europe's leading university hospital by 2032. Together with patients, we work for quality, accessibility, patient safety, research, education, and innovation – in a cohesive healthcare system in the Västra Götaland region. Our vision and goals aim for care of the highest quality, where the patient is always in focus. We provide healthcare locally and regionally, as well as highly specialized care to patients across the country and abroad. Our employees are our strength and contribute to knowledge exchange nationally and internationally. With digital tools and new working methods, we can simplify everyday life at the hospital and offer modern, accessible, and efficient care of the highest quality.

About the operation

The Self-Harm Unit at Östra Hospital is tasked with providing national highly specialized care for patients with difficult-to-treat self-harm behavior.

Patients come to the unit from all over the country through planned admissions via referral. All care is based on voluntariness and willingness to change.

At the department, patients are offered psychotherapeutic treatment tailored to individual needs and cognitive functioning. The treatment period ranges from 18 to 24 weeks, during which patients have access to a multidisciplinary team consisting of doctors, nurses, psychologists, caregivers, treatment assistants, social workers, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, and dietitians. User participation in various forms is an integrated part of the department's work, including peer support.

The care process is permeated by Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and is conducted in a therapeutic environment. In addition to inpatient treatment, we also work with outreach efforts such as consultation for caregivers, training, and supervision. The unit conducts research related to the patient group and works with continuous operational development according to our mission.

What do we offer?

You will be offered shadowing alongside experienced colleagues, adequate training for the role, as well as continued professional development and supervision. The department is the first of its kind in Sweden, which means there are great opportunities to engage in the further development of the department's mission as well as in ongoing research projects.

We offer you job security, and it is important to us that you enjoy your work and your colleagues. We want you to feel good, and we offer health-promoting activities in connection with work and parental leave supplements.

Job responsibilities

Based on DBT and the DBT Skills System as a method, you will work in a team with other colleagues to coach, teach, and support the generalization of skills. You will work closely with patients and follow them in their treatments by planning, organizing, and conducting various treatment activities together with patients both on and off the unit.

In addition to contributing to patients' psychotherapeutic treatment, you will also be responsible for managing the daily operations associated with a 24-hour care unit as well as somatic care tasks such as monitoring, blood tests, and wound dressings. We are now looking for caregivers for two positions scheduled for days, evenings, and weekends with weekend duty four out of ten weekends.
