Postdoctoral Researcher in Cancer Biology with a Focus on Omics Analysis of Ovarian Cancer

The University of Gothenburg meets the challenges of society with versatile knowledge. 58,000 students and 6,800 employees make the university a large and inspiring workplace. Strong research and attractive education attract researchers and students from all over the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University of Gothenburg contributes to a better future.

The Department of Clinical Sciences is one of six departments at the Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg. The department conducts research and education that focuses on human health and quality of life. We represent 16 different subject areas and are divided into four sections. Through enriching collaboration with healthcare and Sahlgrenska University Hospital, we have developed joint projects and meeting places that benefit both care and research.

The Department of Oncology at the Sahlgrenska Academy is a leading institution in cancer research and care, focusing on understanding, combating, and treating various forms of cancer through groundbreaking research and clinical efforts.

The group conducts cancer research using comprehensive analyses of ovarian tumors. To identify new biomarkers and cancer-related genes, we integrate data from multi-omics (i.e., SNP arrays, RNA sequencing, DNA methylation, expression microarrays, mass spectrometry), molecular techniques (FISH [fluorescence in situ hybridization], immunohistochemistry, cell transfection, Western blot, real-time qPCR), and clinicopathological characteristics from cancer cell lines and patient samples obtained from a large number of ovarian tumors. The main goal of the research is to identify biomarkers that can be used for early detection, drug development, and patient stratification in ovarian cancer patients.

Subject

Cancer Biology with a Focus on Omics Analysis of Ovarian Cancer

Subject Description

The subject encompasses research in cancer biology with a particular focus on integrated analysis of omics data, such as RNA sequencing, spatial proteomics, digital pathology, and expression profiles from various cohorts of patients with ovarian tumors. The work focuses on mapping the molecular mechanisms behind tumor development and increasing understanding of tumor heterogeneity and treatment response in ovarian cancer patients. The subject includes both bioinformatics analyses and experimental methods in molecular biology, as well as analysis of clinicopathological data.

Job Responsibilities

The appointee will work with bioinformatics and molecular biology analyses, participate in both experimental and analytical work, and contribute to scientific production by writing articles, presenting at meetings, and supervising doctoral students and undergraduates.

Eligibility

Eligible for appointment as a postdoctoral researcher is a person who has obtained a doctoral degree, artistic doctoral degree, or has a foreign degree that is deemed equivalent to a doctoral degree. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled no later than at the time the employment decision is made.

In the first instance, the one who has obtained a degree no more than three years before the application deadline should be considered. Also, those who obtained their degree earlier should be considered in the first instance if there are special reasons. Special reasons refer to leave due to illness, parental leave, trust assignments within trade unions, service in total defense, or other similar circumstances, as well as clinical service or relevant service/assignments for the subject area.

Assessment Criteria

A doctoral degree in biomedicine, molecular biology, bioinformatics, or a related field is required. Applicants must have documented experience in bioinformatics analyses and the ability to perform both bioinformatics and molecular biological laboratory work.

The candidate must have experience in conducting both experimental and analytical work and be able to actively contribute to scientific production. This includes experience in writing scientific articles, presenting research at conferences and meetings, and supervising doctoral students and/or undergraduates.

Key Qualifications:

  • Ability to work independently as well as collaborate in interdisciplinary teams
  • Experience with tumor immune microenvironment
  • Spatial proteomics
  • SNP polymorphism
  • Digital pathology
  • Good communication skills in English, both oral and written

Additional Merits:

  • Experience in tumor analysis

Employment

The position is a temporary appointment at 100% for 24 months, based at the Department of Clinical Sciences, Division of Oncology. Start date: As soon as possible
