The Faculty of Medicine is one of the largest faculties at Umeå University and attracts many students with a comprehensive range of programs in medicine, dentistry, health, and care. We offer a well-developed research infrastructure and an inspiring, dynamic environment with leading research. Our close collaboration with the four regions in the Northern Healthcare Region is seen as a significant mutual asset for developing research and education and securing the future supply of healthcare personnel.

We are now looking for a study counselor for a full-time temporary position for at least twelve months, with the possibility of extension.

Start date as soon as possible or by agreement. A probationary period may apply.

Job Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the study counselor include providing guidance to prospective and current students enrolled in our programs and courses. The work involves counseling sessions, individual study planning, eligibility questions, preparing credit transfers, study breaks, and some other administrative tasks. It also includes providing study support to students with disabilities, assessing academic results for students applying from other institutions, and planning and conducting information meetings and events for students.

The work as a study counselor primarily involves contact with students in individual meetings, both digital and physical, as well as via phone or email. The work is connected to all locations where we operate, including Umeå, Skellefteå, Örnsköldsvik, and Lycksele. You will closely collaborate with other study counselors, study administrators, VFU coordinators, and teachers. The tasks may change over time.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who has a degree in study and career counseling and experience in the role of a study counselor. The job requires good knowledge of and ability to apply current regulations, as well as strong communication skills in both spoken and written Swedish and English. We expect you to be well acquainted with MS Office and its programs, such as Word and Excel.

Other Desired Qualifications

Experience in similar tasks is advantageous, as well as familiarity with university-level education, preferably in the medical field. Experience working with the university's study administrative systems (LADOK, NyA, Selma, Cambro, Moodle, Canvas) and state higher education administration is also beneficial. We would also like to see experience in administrative work within the higher education sector. Previous experience with remote guidance is a plus.

As a person, you are service-oriented, attentive, and clear, and you find it easy to collaborate. To thrive in the role of a study counselor, you must be responsible and independent, with a good ability to take initiative, plan and organize your own work, and find solutions.

Since the work involves many points of contact, a high sense of service and flexibility is required, and you need to feel a commitment to helping people move forward. You should enjoy building good relationships with both colleagues and students, as well as external parties. Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities.
