Orthodontic Assistant Training at Folktandvården Eastman Institute

Are you a dental nurse or dental hygienist at an orthodontic clinic? Then you have the chance to apply for our Orthodontic Assistant Training starting in spring 2026.

Folktandvården Stockholm has extensive experience in training both ST dentists and Orthodontic Assistants at the Eastman Institute, and it is now time for a new course round.

The Training

The goal of the training is for you as a dental nurse or dental hygienist to be able to perform tasks under the guidance of the responsible specialist dentist in orthodontics.

The training is conducted in the form of lectures, group work, and self-study. During the theoretical part, you will learn more about facial growth, dental development, dental anomalies, tissue reactions, and treatment methodology with fixed appliances. During the clinical part of the training, you will perform various practical tasks such as taking medical history, photography, impression taking, intraoral scanning, and how to take both panoramic and profile X-rays. The practical tasks and application of the theoretical knowledge, which includes various clinical treatments with different types of orthodontic appliances and materials, take place at your home clinic under supervision.

The training lasts for four semesters with part-time studies. Two to three times per semester, we meet at Folktandvården, Eastman Institute for lectures and joint group work, for two days at each occasion. You will also participate in a couple of digital lectures per semester, joining from your home clinic. Between course meetings, you will perform various clinical tasks at your home clinic under the guidance of your supervisor, who is a specialist dentist in orthodontics.

Alongside the theoretical and clinical training, you will also carry out a project work in line with a quality development project, which you will present at the examination. The supervisor at your home clinic is responsible for supervising the project work.

The Orthodontic Assistant Training is conducted in consultation with the Swedish Orthodontic Society, which guarantees the training's curriculum and quality.

Qualifications

To be eligible for the training, you must be supervised by a person with approved specialist qualifications in orthodontics issued by the National Board of Health and Welfare and who works at your clinic.

Course Fee

The training has a course fee of 35,000 SEK per semester and participant (140,000 SEK for 4 semesters), excluding VAT.
