Building technology, with its focus on sustainable construction, is an important component of Mid Sweden University's strategic direction towards sustainable societal development in northern Sweden.

The subject profiles itself towards sustainable construction, and the program "Building Engineer Sustainable Construction" includes three major parts: community and building planning, building construction, and building production. Building technology works closely with the subjects of Environmental Science and Environmental Engineering, emphasizing interdisciplinarity, problem-solving, and practical application within the framework of sustainable development. Building and strengthening research activities in sustainable construction will be a prioritized task in the coming years.

Responsibilities

As an assistant university lecturer, your main responsibilities are to independently conduct teaching, supervision, and examination at the basic level. You will also conduct research within the subject area of the employment, where you are expected to actively participate in efforts to generate financial research resources. You contribute to building and developing the academic environment within Building Technology and sustainable construction, as well as strengthening and developing collaboration with other academic research environments within building technology.

Teaching is conducted in Swedish and primarily within the building engineer program, including lectures, leading seminars, supervising projects and theses, as well as examination. The needs of the program and the focus of your competence will guide which part of the program your teaching emphasis will be placed. The position also includes administration, course development, as well as planning, design, and coordination of courses or other development projects. For both the implementation and development of the program, we collaborate with the construction industry in the region through an established industry council in which you are expected to participate.

Courses within the Building Engineer program are offered both on campus and remotely via an online learning platform and digital teaching tools. We teach in a hybrid format, which means that campus and distance students are taught simultaneously.

Eligibility

Eligible for employment as an assistant lecturer is, according to Chapter 4, Section 4a of the Higher Education Ordinance, someone who has obtained a doctoral degree or has equivalent scientific competence. Assessment Criteria

The applicant's scientific and pedagogical skills must be sufficiently good, both qualitatively and quantitatively. Personal Qualities

The position requires independence as well as good collaboration skills. Since the position involves several different tasks, further ability to work in a structured manner and good planning skills are required.

We are looking for someone with leadership experience and the ability to motivate and create engagement. You have good communication skills and a willingness to collaborate both within and outside the subject's boundaries. You are interested and proactive and want to actively contribute to the development work of the subject and the institution.

We expect you to be flexible and have the ability to move between different types of pedagogical and scientific contexts. You share knowledge and contribute to the professional development of the workgroup, collegial working methods, and social community. Being present on campus and active is seen as essential for you to perform your tasks in the best way and thrive in the work community.

Other Assessment Criteria

Very good knowledge of Swedish and English in speech and writing is a requirement, as well as the ability to use IT tools for teaching.

Processing

Employment and Start Date

The employment is full-time 100% for four years, from 2026-04-01 or by agreement. Provisions regarding employment as an assistant lecturer are found in the Higher Education Ordinance (1993:100), Chapter 4, Section 12a.

As an assistant lecturer, you can apply for promotion to a position as a university lecturer. This promotion means a permanent position as a university lecturer. The subject area for the lectureship should be the same or closely related to the subject area applicable to this position. Applications for promotion to university lecturer are processed on the same grounds and with the same quality criteria as for other recruitment of university lecturers.

In addition to the general quality criteria required for promotion to university lecturer, you are expected to contribute to the development of the research environment, actively seek external funding, publish results, and strengthen both the university's educational and collaborative goals during your employment as an assistant lecturer.
