Nursing Assistant for the Intensive Care Unit

The work in our intensive care unit is varied and stimulating. We provide advanced intensive care with monitoring and treatment of patients with compromised vital functions. We also keep some places open for intermediate care patients as well as monitoring of postoperative patients during on-call hours.

You will become an important part of an engaged team that, besides you as a nursing assistant, consists of intensive care nurses and doctors. Together, we work to provide our patients with the best possible care.

The work is scheduled according to a rolling roster covering day, evening, and night shifts. You will receive a good introduction based on your previous skills and experiences.

About You

For this temporary position, we are looking for someone who is a trained nursing assistant. The position is to cover for a colleague on leave, so there are good chances for extension.

Your Future Workplace

About 60 people work in the intensive care unit, including anesthesiologists, specialized intensive care nurses, general nurses, nursing assistants, and a secretary. Adjacent to the ICU, we have a recovery unit and a day surgery unit that is currently staffed by general nurses and nursing assistants. Approximately 600 patients of all ages with varying diagnoses are cared for in the ICU each year. All patients who have been cared for for more than 92 hours are offered a visit to our Post-ICU clinic. We participate in trauma alerts and emergency alerts at the hospital. We also assist the pediatric clinic with ventilator care in the Neonatal unit.

Despite being the smaller acute hospital, we have most specialties represented, such as surgery, orthopedics, medicine, women's clinic with delivery, pediatric clinic with neonatal unit, eye and ear. The infectious disease clinic is located in Kalmar, where we have a close collaboration. Our hospital's strength is short and quick decision-making paths with personal contact and relationships across clinical boundaries. This enables us to provide our intensive care with high quality and good results. Västervik Hospital is one of three hospitals in Kalmar County.
