Nursing Assistant for Intensive Care Unit

The work in our intensive care unit is varied and educational. We provide advanced intensive care with monitoring and treatment of patients with vital function failures. We also keep some places open for intermediate care patients and monitoring of postoperative patients during on-call hours.

You will be an important part of a competent and close-knit team consisting of nursing assistants, intensive care nurses, and doctors who all collaborate to provide patients with the best possible care.

The work is scheduled according to a rotating schedule for days, evenings, and nights. You will receive a good introduction based on your previous knowledge and experience. The position is 85%, with the possibility to work up to 100% according to internal routines if desired.

Your Future Workplace

About 60 people work in the intensive care unit, distributed among anesthesiologists, specialized intensive care nurses, general nurses, nursing assistants, and a secretary. Adjacent to the ICU, we have a recovery unit and a day surgery unit currently staffed by general nurses and nursing assistants. Approximately 600 patients of all ages with varying diagnoses are cared for in the ICU each year. All patients who have been cared for for more than 92 hours are offered a visit to our Post-ICU clinic. We participate in trauma alarms and emergency alarms at the hospital. We also assist the pediatric clinic with ventilator care in the Neonatal unit.

Despite being the smaller acute hospital, we have most specialties represented, such as surgery, orthopedics, medicine, women's clinic with maternity care, pediatric clinic with neonatal unit, eyes, and ears. The infectious disease clinic is located in Kalmar, where we have close cooperation. Our hospital's strength is short and fast decision-making paths with personal contact and relationships across clinical boundaries. This allows us to conduct our intensive care with high quality and good results. Västervik Hospital is one of three hospitals in Kalmar County.
