Nursing Assistant for Intensive Care Unit

The work in our intensive care unit is varied and educational. We provide advanced intensive care with monitoring and treatment of patients with compromised vital functions. We also keep some places open for intermediate care patients and monitoring of postoperative patients during on-call hours.

You will become an important part of a competent and cohesive team consisting of nursing assistants, intensive care nurses, and doctors who all collaborate to provide patients with the best possible care.

The work is scheduled based on a rotating schedule covering days, evenings, and nights. You will receive a good introduction based on your previous knowledge and experience. The position is 75%, with the possibility to work up to 100% according to internal procedures if desired.

Your Future Workplace

About 60 people work in the intensive care unit, including anesthesiologists, specialized intensive care nurses, general nurses, nursing assistants, and a secretary. Adjacent to the ICU, we have a recovery unit and a day surgery unit staffed by general nurses and nursing assistants. Approximately 600 patients of all ages with varying diagnoses are cared for in the ICU each year. All patients who have been cared for for more than 92 hours are offered a visit to our Post-ICU clinic. We participate in trauma alarms and emergency alarms at the hospital. We also assist the pediatric clinic with ventilator care in the Neonatal unit.

Despite being the smaller acute hospital, we have most specialties represented, such as surgery, orthopedics, medicine, women's clinic with delivery, pediatric clinic with neonatal unit, eyes, and ears. The infectious disease clinic is located in Kalmar, where we have close collaboration. Our hospital's strength lies in short and quick decision-making paths with personal contact and relationships across clinical boundaries. This enables us to provide our intensive care with high quality and good results.

Västervik Hospital is one of three hospitals in Kalmar County. The hospital is an acute care hospital with maternity care and a maternity ward.
