The Corona Commission's report on deficiencies in elderly care has identified, among other things, collaboration and competence gaps in the care of the elderly. In the region, IVO has also criticized collaboration and care during inspections. The establishment of this function is a political decision.

Your employment will be within Vårdval Västernorrland in the Regional Management Office in the area of Planning and Political Support. The assignment is of a strategic and coordinating nature and aims to contribute to equitable care and treatment of the elderly population in Västernorrland.

Vårdval Västernorrland is organizationally placed within the Regional Management Office in the Regional Management Administration. The unit's mission mainly involves support for civil servants and budget management for the Regional Council's political order of primary care and child and adolescent dental care according to the Act on Freedom of Choice Systems (LOV). The unit also has a mandate to provide central support for the region's maternal and child health care.

We are now looking for a Chief Physician in Elderly Care. The position is a permanent employment of approximately 75% with the possibility of combined employment in other activities/research. Start date is 2026-02-01 or as agreed.

Chief Physician in Elderly Care for Planning/Political Support, Region Västernorrland Job Responsibilities

The unit offers varied tasks and provides good opportunities for professional development in a closely collaborating team with extensive contacts both within and outside the region. The role includes:

  • Contributing medical, ethical, and legal expertise in the field of elderly care
  • Collaboration between different levels of care and specialties for a cohesive care chain

Your work will be in good cooperation with medically responsible physicians in primary care and the medically responsible nurses in the municipalities, as well as the medically responsible for rehabilitation, which is key to the assignment.

You will also contribute to quality monitoring and development by:

  • Identifying and proposing indicators for monitoring
  • Following current research and development in the field
  • Developing and updating medical guidelines and routines in collaboration with partners

The assignment also includes training based on needs in identified areas, as well as participation in councils/networks that are relevant to the assignment and within the framework of knowledge management.

Other InformationQualifications

We are looking for someone who

  • Is a licensed physician with specialist competence in general medicine and/or geriatrics
  • Has 3 years of full-time clinical service after obtaining specialist competence
  • Has good knowledge of the legislation governing the conditions of primary care and the primary care reform
  • Has at least 4 years of work experience in the field of elderly care/elderly health
  • Has good knowledge of Swedish in both speech and writing
  • Has a B driver's license

  • Have leadership and administrative experience/training
  • Have a doctorate in a relevant subject area
