JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Are you passionate about ensuring healthy animals in Sweden, want to work on combating serious animal diseases, and thrive in a fast-paced environment? Then this is the job for you.

The Disease Control Unit works with preventive measures to prevent serious animal diseases, prepare for outbreaks, and combat such serious animal diseases when they occur.

We at the Disease Control Unit need to strengthen our organization with you who have solid experience in animal health and disease control. With us, you will work operationally with disease control issues but also a lot with legislation, EU work, disease monitoring issues, and preparedness work. We work in teams, and the teams are largely responsible for their working methods, priorities, and tasks. The team shares the responsibility for monitoring the team's email inbox, answering the emergency phone, and other tasks that are prerequisites for the operation to function.

The work is often event-driven as we handle suspicions and outbreaks of, among other things, avian influenza, Newcastle disease, and anthrax. Periodically, we put a lot of work into disease control investigations, but it is also important that we prioritize our preparedness work, i.e., that we are prepared to tackle outbreaks of infectious diseases. In addition to disease outbreaks in land animals, we also handle outbreaks in aquaculture animals and bees.

You will have contacts with external actors that we collaborate with, such as authorities, companies, and organizations, as well as animal keepers and private individuals. You will have the opportunity to influence EU legislation by preparing for and participating in EU meetings with colleagues. The work involves disseminating knowledge and information about disease control and representing the Swedish Board of Agriculture in various contexts. Our issues generate great interest among the public, which means we often have contact with the media. You will also work with the team's other ongoing tasks such as general disease control issues, monitoring of animal diseases, and regulatory work.

In connection with suspicions and outbreaks of infectious animal diseases, the work is often intense and may involve working after regular hours and on weekends, especially during the period when avian influenza occurs. Even though it is an intense job, it is important that we work sustainably and long-term.

The position may involve working in the crisis organization of the Swedish Board of Agriculture.

Travel, both within Sweden and internationally, may be required as part of the job.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for someone with an academic degree as a veterinarian, agronomist, or other education that we deem suitable. You have previously worked with disease control, which may involve both preventive measures and handling disease spread.

For the position, very good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written, is required. You also hold a B driver's license as travel is required in the position.

It is an advantage if you have previously worked within a government agency. Experience in outbreak control, for example operationally during outbreaks or as an administrator or similar in outbreak investigations, and work related to agricultural animals is also considered an advantage.

We also view it positively if you have experience with the animal species that the team primarily handles, which are poultry and aquatic animals.

We are looking for someone who is confident and can act calmly even in situations with many uncertainties. The work requires that you often quickly find solutions to emerging problems. You need to be a stable person who can handle intense periods but also have the ability to recover to feel good at work.

The work requires that you are structured, can plan your work, and have good order in sometimes chaotic situations with complex information and many tasks. Since we work in teams, there are high demands for good communication and collaboration, where we constantly strive to achieve good results together. We will place great emphasis on your personal abilities.

OTHER

The place of employment is Jönköping, Uppsala, or Landskrona with the possibility of working part of the time remotely.

For us, it is important that all skills in the labor market are utilized. We welcome all applicants and strive for diversity. We normally apply a 6-month probationary period.

We intend to recruit two permanent positions and one temporary position, the temporary position extends until 2026-12-31.

In preparation for the recruitment process, we have made decisions regarding recruitment channels and marketing. Therefore, we do not wish to be contacted by advertisement sellers or recruitment companies.
