HEMS Coordinator at the Emergency Medical Dispatch Center

We are looking for an engaged and structured nurse with a strong ability to prioritize in complex and high-pressure situations.

As a HEMS coordinator, you will play a central role in leading and coordinating the air ambulance's efforts within the Västra Götaland region, focusing on patient safety and efficient resource use.

The Emergency Medical Dispatch Center, part of the Västra Götaland region since 2017, is tasked with ensuring that every patient receives the right care, at the right level, with the right resources – at the right time. This may involve sending an ambulance or air ambulance, non-emergency patient transport, or referring to another healthcare provider. Our operations are ongoing 24/7, all year round, to provide quick and safe care when it is needed the most.

About the Job

You will work with prioritizing critically ill patients based on alarms, monitoring, reviewing medical records, and medical technical data (e.g., Corpuls), in close dialogue with ambulance personnel. You will also coordinate and direct alarm missions to the air ambulance, focusing on ensuring the right patient receives the right help at the right time. Manage multiple simultaneous communication channels and calls. Be responsible for flight follow-up and opening the region's helicopter landing sites in connection with ongoing flights. Provide support to pilots with information about weather conditions, landing sites, and other important prerequisites for safe flying.

About You

We are looking for a licensed nurse with three years of work experience as a nurse. You should also have pre-hospital experience. As a person, you are structured, stress-resistant, flexible, attentive, and quick to adapt to new tasks, thriving in an environment where tasks are constantly evolving. Furthermore, you have good multitasking abilities and collaboration skills, as well as strong communication skills and a good approach towards others. You are also confident in your professional role and have the ability to make quick and accurate decisions even under time pressure. You speak Swedish fluently and have good knowledge of English. Other language skills are considered an advantage.

It is important that you are accustomed to working with technical tools such as IT and telephony, as you will be working in an advanced high-tech environment. Experience with CoordCom, Alitis, SAFE, or other dispatch systems is advantageous. Personal suitability for the position will be given great importance.

Conditions

A prerequisite for employment with us is that you are a Swedish citizen, and you will undergo a security interview. As part of the selection process, we use tests during hiring, which aim to challenge your abilities to handle the work in the best way based on areas of medicine, logical ability, and stress resistance.
