At the Swedish Migration Agency, we work with one of the major societal issues of our time – migration. In total, we are about 6,000 people here, and we have an unusually important job!

The detention center in Mölndal is looking for a unit manager.

Detention is part of organized migration, and within detention, people who have received a rejection or expulsion decision need to be available for enforcement. A person can also be detained if their right to stay in the country or their identity needs to be investigated. Detention is a closed operation that runs around the clock. The operation must be designed in a legally secure, safe, and dignified manner with a focus on the individual.

Being a unit manager in the detention operation
In the role of unit manager at the detention center, you will have a key role with responsibility for personnel, budget, and working environment for a unit of about 20-25 employees. Together with your employees, you will drive the unit towards set goals and ensure continuous development.

As a unit manager, you are responsible for leading the operation at your unit where goal fulfillment, a good working environment, and development are prioritized highly. As a leader, you create conditions for a developing and positive work climate that allows employees to grow in their roles and carry out their tasks in the best possible way. You harness and strengthen the drive that exists among employees through participation, engagement, and focus on our mission.

You are part of the section's management group, and in the management group work, you contribute to the continuous development of the operation from the section's and region's holistic perspective.

Personal competencies
As a manager in detention, you are confident in your leadership, can coach and motivate your employees and colleagues to achieve common goals together. You enjoy working in an institution with round-the-clock operations. You are humble and have the ability to remain calm and at the same time take action even when circumstances change. We appreciate that you work systematically to capture and highlight different perspectives and ideas, and you are expected to carry out your tasks in close collaboration with colleagues. Establishing and maintaining trustworthy contacts comes naturally to you, as the role requires many points of contact both within and outside the authority. You are present in your leadership and create participation and conditions for your employees to grow and take responsibility in a climate that inspires joy at work, action, and efficiency. You lead with courage, empathy, and clarity.

In our work as civil servants, high demands are also placed on judgment and a high level of security and confidentiality awareness.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • A university degree of at least 120 credits
  • Managerial experience with responsibility for personnel, working environment, and budget
  • Very good ability to express yourself in speech and writing in Swedish and English

It is meritorious if you have:

  • Managerial experience from public sector
  • Experience of working in locked institutions such as detention centers, correctional services, SIS, or forensic psychiatry
  • Experience in leading employees in round-the-clock operations

Information
Employment form: Personal contract for a maximum until 2027-12-31 and possibly a permanent position where a probationary period may be applicable
Working hours: Office hours with the possibility of an agreement on trust-based working hours
Location: Mölndal
Start date: By agreement
