Summer Job as a Correctional Officer
The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now looking for more employees. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society will be safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, remand facilities, and client transport.
Kristianstad has a new remand facility with 120 places located in the new Justice Center quarter, in addition to a smaller older remand facility nearby with 29 places. The workplace is equipped with a large staff gym, a staff restaurant with the option to purchase subsidized meals. As an employee of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service, you have several benefits, such as more vacation days (28-35), wellness grants, reimbursement for high-cost medications, and subsidized healthcare visits.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
This advertisement is aimed at those who are currently students or conscripts. Perhaps you are studying to become a police officer and wish to gain more practical knowledge in dealing with people, or you are studying criminology or behavioral sciences and wish to gain a deeper understanding of individuals? Secure a summer internship now with the possibility of extension after the summer.
Working as a correctional officer means you can make a difference for others and contribute to a better society. To thrive and succeed in your role, it is important that you share the fundamental values of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service regarding a humane view of humanity, respect for the individual, and the belief that people can develop. This is a summer job that will give you a lifetime of experience.
Work at the remand facility is often routine-oriented and focused on care and security tasks. Our clients may be detained for long periods without meeting anyone other than their lawyer and the staff at the remand facility. This places special demands on you as a correctional officer.
This job is for those seeking varied security work. Together with your colleagues, you will conduct daily operations. Your tasks will include monitoring, meal distribution, and searches, interspersed with isolation-breaking measures such as daily contact/conversations and motivational work with our clients. Since some documentation is required, it is important that you can express yourself well in writing.
You need to have good self-awareness, integrity, stability, the ability to apply clear communication, and share the values of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service. The work may require you as a correctional officer to intervene physically if the situation demands it to protect yourself, a colleague, or a client. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.
The operations of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service run around the clock, year-round. You will work days, evenings, and weekends. Some schedules may include night work.
