Mestergruppen Sweden is an association of independent entrepreneurs. Under their umbrella are well-known chains such as XL-BYGG, BOLIST, Happy Homes, Colorama, and Mal Proff. Together, they are market leaders in the building materials trade in Sweden, with approximately 275 stores across the country. In addition, the business includes about 175 paint retail stores, making them one of Sweden's largest players with an extensive store network. Mestergruppen's office in Solna consists of about 90 engaged employees and offers support in areas such as purchasing, master data, marketing, e-commerce, finance, logistics, business systems, as well as store development and establishment. As a support function to its members and co-owners, they have an important mission: to provide products, services, and expertise that enable the stores in their chains to be profitable, efficient, and successful. The service office Mestergruppen Sweden is part of the Mestergruppen group, with its headquarters in Oslo, and they strongly believe in the power of a group-wide working method.

Mestergruppen is located in modern premises at the top of Solna Gate with a gym, sports hall, and restaurant in the building.

Job Responsibilities

As a category manager, you will be a central part of Mestergruppen's purchasing department, with strategic responsibility for assortment, supplier relationships, and profitability within heavy building materials. You combine strategic work with procurement, negotiations, and category development with operational tasks such as implementation in the store network and monitoring of purchasing statistics and results. The role requires good market understanding, business acumen, and strong negotiation skills.

You will collaborate closely with chains, members, suppliers, and internal support functions such as master data, marketing, sustainability, and sales, and contribute to ensuring that new products and solutions reach the members. You will be given a significant mandate to drive change, improvements, and development within your categories. Introduction and responsibilities will be tailored to your background and experience, and there are good development opportunities within the company.

Examples of job tasks:

  • Be responsible for assortment, purchasing prices, and supplier agreements within your categories
  • Conduct procurements and drive category development
  • Develop category and assortment plans based on market needs
  • Negotiate and develop supplier collaborations
  • Collaborate with members, marketing, and other internal support functions
  • Monitor purchasing statistics, profitability, and results

Education, experience, and personal qualities

• At least five years of experience in a similar role, such as category or product manager or strategic purchaser

• Good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written

• Good knowledge of Excel

• Experience from the construction industry, preferably within heavy building materials, is highly meritorious. Experience from, for example, building supply trade, wholesale operations, or retail is seen as an advantage

• Post-secondary education in purchasing, economics, or another relevant field is meritorious
