We are now looking for emergency and foster homes throughout Sweden! Trygga Barn is a foster and emergency home organization that accepts placements of children exposed to various types of violence, ranging from attachment trauma to urgent protection needs. The children placed with us need to come to a safe and loving family that stands by the child's side no matter what. The children placed with us may express trauma and mental health issues in various ways, from self-destructive behavior, trauma diagnoses, insecure attachment, and panic anxiety.
Trygga Barn is the first foster home organization in Sweden where all children placed with us receive a child representative. A child representative has confidentiality against the foster home to ensure the child receives good foster care and to prevent misconduct. We are also the first organization in the country with specialist knowledge of narcissistic violence and emotional abuse.
In our organization, all foster homes are trained based on certified training on various types of violence, children's emotional reactions to violence, trauma diagnoses, psychosocial issues, the Convention on the Rights of the Child, and much more!
With us, all families receive continuous training, supervision, and relief in the form of a contact person.
About the assignment
We are now looking for committed individuals who are willing to open their homes to children and adults in need of a loving and safe home to ensure a favorable development for the placed individual. We work based on courage, commitment, self-determination, safety, and continuity. We are now in need of recruiting families who wish to be part of a change for a better Sweden for all the country's children.
You as an applicant do not need to have previous experience of the assignment but will be supervised and trained by the social worker and operations manager Rebecca Lysholm, who has several years of experience with violence in close relationships. Regardless of whether you want to become an emergency home or a foster home, Trygga Barn guarantees that you will gain new knowledge and opportunities for personal development.
We accept all types of family constellations, including nuclear families, single parents, blended families, same-sex couples, and families that already have children or have not had children! We require that the child can have their own bedroom regardless of whether you want to receive an infant. For us, children's privacy is important. If you need to take a leave of absence, we will compensate you for lost income. All applicant foster homes undergo a foster home investigation for suitability assessment. If development areas emerge, the applicant, together with the operations manager, will create a plan for training and support in these areas.
Foster homes
A foster home is a home where a child can live for a shorter period or for the rest of their upbringing. A foster home is a family that can offer a stable and secure environment for the placed child. We value diversity, and all family constellations and ages (at least 18 years old) can become foster homes in our organization.
The foster home has the freedom to decide which target group they wish to accept and the complexity of the case. If you have no previous experience of the assignment, you will have the opportunity to gradually gain experience.
Being a foster home involves challenges, and therefore we value continuous supervision and access to support from the operations manager at all times of the day. Your personal qualities should include being loving and emotionally available, motivated to develop, self-aware, unpretentious, and a secure adult.
One of the most important tasks for a foster home is to collaborate with the operations manager, the child, the birth family, social services, and other key actors in the child's life.
Emergency homes
An emergency home is a home that can receive a child at short notice, often for emergency placements. This may involve a child who has been immediately taken into care because social services have received information that there is physical violence in the home.
To become an emergency home, you need to be able to offer a safe person who can be home full-time, have a stable situation, space in the home, a driver's license, and not be registered in any criminal record.
Some emergency homes choose to transition to becoming foster homes if social services assess that the child should be placed in a foster home for a longer period.
All emergency and foster homes receive compensation for the assignment as well as care costs for the placed child.
To become a foster home/emergency home with us, you need to submit a criminal record, suspicion register, social register, LOB register, and records from the Social Insurance Agency and the Enforcement Authority. If necessary, the foster home investigator may request other certificates if needed. The foster home must also be able to ensure the child's schooling and contact with care services if needed. The foster home must provide the child with their own room during the placement.
