Do you want to help drive development at one of Europe’s leading university hospitals? The Medical Technology department (MT) has a mission to ensure that Karolinska University Hospital's healthcare operations have the medical technology equipment necessary to provide world-class care, today and tomorrow. The MT department is responsible for service, maintenance, and management of the hospital's medical technology equipment and actively participates in planning future investments. Additionally, we contribute to enabling development and innovation within specialized and highly specialized healthcare and accelerate the use of new technology to address healthcare challenges. MT is organized under the central staff of Technology. We have about 110 employees with four equipment-oriented units and a unit for project management and business development. Our operations are primarily located at Karolinska in Huddinge and Solna.

About the position

Karolinska University Hospital could not be a world-class university hospital without a technology side that delivers high quality and efficiency. MT Lab and Primary Care handle analytical equipment across all complexity classes used mainly by Karolinska's laboratory operations. The equipment park is extremely varied. Some examples include automated nucleic acid extraction from various patient samples, centrifuges, staining equipment, and microscopes for assessing tissue sections, fully automated analysis lines for allergies, cell culture incubators, and freezing machines for blood plasma. MT Lab and Primary Care also services equipment located outside Huddinge and Solna, such as blood centers and health centers.

The unit's goal is to ensure effective and appropriate management of the medical technology equipment park throughout its lifecycle. This is achieved in the management part by, based on the labs' needs for medical technology, initiating and participating in procurements, ensuring maintenance and high availability of equipment, and working long-term with lifecycle management of equipment. The work is carried out in close collaboration with suppliers, which means that contract management and supplier relationships are an important part of the job. You will be responsible for several different pieces of equipment within the Lab and Primary Care area.

The management part within MT Lab and Primary Care currently consists of a total of six employees with mixed backgrounds who have worked with medical technology for several years.

Tasks included in the role:

  • Ensure that the business's needs for medical technology are clarified and met within your area of responsibility.
  • Drive/lead the investment process for purchasing equipment related to new investments, additions, and replacements of equipment to achieve cost-effectiveness.
  • Independently develop and create strategies in the form of action plans, development plans, and priorities so that Karolinska can maximize care quality in a cost-effective manner.
  • Manage equipment and service agreements. Represent Karolinska in matters with suppliers regarding lifecycle management such as contract negotiations, deviations, development, and changes.
  • Participate and contribute to procurements regarding specifications and evaluation of suppliers' bids.
  • Receive escalations from colleagues working with service and support and/or operations regarding the above area of responsibility.
  • Close collaboration with various lab and healthcare operations, purchasing, facilities, and IT.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Academic degree in technology, laboratory, or another area deemed relevant by the employer.
  • Several years of experience working with laboratory equipment, and/or work in the intersection of technology/lab
  • Experience in project management or another coordinating/leading role
  • Very good communication skills, Swedish and English, both spoken and written.

Meritorious:

  • Experience in leading other people
  • Experience working with/leading IT installations
  • Experience working with hospital-wide systems
  • Experience in managing MT equipment
  • Experience in financial monitoring and planning
  • Experience negotiating from the customer and/or supplier side.
  • Experience working closely with laboratory operations
  • Experience working in relevant IT systems such as Medusa, Tableau, Excel
