About the American High School, Gothenburg

Located in Lindholmen, next to Karlatornet, our newly built school opened in the autumn of 2024. Approximately 590 students study at our school in the Natural Sciences, Technology, Economics, or Social Sciences programs. The teaching is conducted in both Swedish and English by a competent and driven teaching staff with a strong sense of community.

About the Role

As a lead teacher, you will be a key person in the school's mathematics work – inspiring students in the classroom and leading colleagues as the subject coordinator to create the highest quality teaching.

You will be responsible for planning, implementing, assessing, and evaluating your own teaching, as well as leading lessons based on our pedagogical structure. You will also lead an engaged and cohesive subject team, where collaboration and collegial learning are a natural part of everyday life. You will teach in a digital environment using digital teaching materials combined with traditional literature. Teaching will be conducted in Swedish with elements of English. The role also includes mentorship for a class.

We have a clear and ambitious vision: to become a leader in mathematics in Gothenburg. For us, it is not about grade levels, but about ensuring that every student has the opportunity to develop their understanding, confidence, and reach their full potential in the subject.

We see that many students come from primary school with insufficient foundational knowledge and sometimes a perception that mathematics is difficult. We want to change that image – and create teaching that sparks curiosity, joy, and motivation.

We are now looking for a lead teacher in mathematics who wants to be part of this journey. As the subject coordinator, you will be a key person in:

- developing our mathematics teaching into a model for Gothenburg

- inspiring both students and colleagues with new methods and perspectives

- leading the work together with a team of four other mathematics teachers to strengthen students' foundational understanding and positive attitude towards the subject

- also contributing to sharing success factors with our other schools moving forward

The position is a permanent employment at 100%, starting with a 6-month probation period. Start date as soon as possible or by agreement.

Your Profile

To succeed in the role of lead teacher, we are looking for a certified teacher with at least four years of professional experience. You are documented to be particularly skilled in your teaching and can demonstrate good results in developing students' learning and goal achievement.

You have a strong commitment to teaching development and a genuine interest in contributing to collegial learning. You enjoy leading development work, sharing good examples, and inspiring other teachers to try new methods.

As a person, you are reflective, structured, and collaborative, with the ability to drive pedagogical development forward together with both colleagues and school management.

You are expected to have good communication skills in both Swedish and English, in both speech and writing. You have the ability to use a wide range of digital teaching materials and possess solid digital competence.
