Profile Requirements

One of the most important tasks of the Botanical Garden is to care for and manage the valuable plant collection with about 7,000 different species growing outdoors and in our greenhouses.

The garden has more than half a million visitors each year and should be an interesting, well-maintained, and safe place for both children and adults to visit.

In the Botanical Garden's greenhouses, there are nine sections with different climates and plants from around the world. Next to the desert succulents are 150-year-old specimens of endangered cone palms.

We are now looking for a new greenhouse technician who wants to take care of, nurture, and help develop this greenhouse.

Job Responsibilities

You will be part of a team and manage the daily operations of the greenhouses. Main tasks include repotting, pruning, watering, cleaning, and pest control. During the period, there will also be heavy tasks such as repotting large urns, digging, and window cleaning, which requires good physical condition. You will be part of a rotating weekend schedule, so weekend work may occur.

Our greenhouses are under renovation, and this project will significantly impact your work.

• The workload will be high at times, and planned work may change at short notice.
• Some of the plant material has been evacuated from the Botanical Garden to other greenhouses in Lund, and you will also need to work in these greenhouses.
• There will be external organizations carrying out the renovations in the greenhouses, and you will need to interact with them.

The Botanical Garden will actively work to keep stress levels low, but it is important that you are a flexible person who can easily change your plans and continue working in new directions. If necessary, your tasks may be moved to work with other teams if the need arises.

We are looking for a responsive, calm, stable, meticulous, and quality-conscious person. Someone who has a great interest in greenhouse-grown plants and a desire to learn in-depth about their care. You must enjoy working with small details and accept that things take time if you are to succeed in cultivation. Interest and some prior knowledge and practical experience in greenhouse technology are required to manage the work. We will place great emphasis on previous experience in similar tasks and personal suitability.

Requirements

At least a 2-year horticultural education with a focus on cultivation, as well as experience with tropical and subtropical material. Some practical work with greenhouse technology. We will place great emphasis on personal suitability.
