The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is Growing – We are Hiring!

The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is expanding – we are building new facilities, renovating, and adding to our services, and we are now looking for more employees. Our primary goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the cycle of crime. If we succeed, society will be safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, remand facilities, and client transport.

The Vänersborg area consists of two prisons in Vänersborg and a remand facility in Uddevalla. Östragård Prison is an open facility with space for 191 clients, with one section dedicated to clients convicted of sexual offenses. Brinkeberg Prison is a closed facility with space for 130, and the remand facility in Uddevalla has 57 places. In this recruitment, we are looking for correctional officers for placement at the prisons in Vänersborg.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

As a correctional officer, you will be part of a team where you have daily contact with clients. The tasks at the prison are varied: care, monitoring, searching, and security work are mixed with release planning and conversation and motivation work.

The employment starts with a 3-week local introduction at the prison. Depending on the number of training places and our staffing needs, you will then start your employment with either training or work. If you start working immediately, the idea is that you will begin your correctional officer training as soon as possible. It is a mandatory training course lasting 8 weeks, and you will receive full salary during the entire training period. The training alternates between theory and practice. During the probationary period, ongoing assessments will be conducted for your opportunity for permanent employment.

QUALIFICATIONS

Your personal qualities are important to us. As a correctional officer, you need to be secure, stable, and have good self-awareness. Since you will be working with your colleagues to run the operation, you need to have good teamwork skills and the ability to communicate clearly. Good judgment and integrity are required in your professional practice. You must have a physical condition that allows you to act physically when the situation requires it.

We are looking for someone who has:

• A complete high school education or equivalent education combined with work experience that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service considers relevant
• Work experience, including seasonal work, part-time employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not considered equivalent to employment
• Good knowledge of the Swedish language in both speech and writing
• Good computer skills
• A valid driver's license (B)

It is an advantage if you have:

• Knowledge in relevant fields, such as behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law, or conflict management
• Work experience from correctional services, security work, social care, psychiatry, or healthcare and social work
• Relevant language skills

OTHER

We have high demands on our employees' security and confidentiality awareness. A security check will precede the hiring decision. Some positions are placed in a security class, and a security assessment with a background check will be conducted before a hiring decision is made. For positions with a higher security class, you need to be a Swedish citizen, but you may have a foreign background.
