Family Support Worker/Therapist for Preventive Social Services

We are now looking for you to complement our team with family support workers!

Södertälje has long invested in early preventive support for families and since 2020 has expanded its operations from 3 to 12 family support workers who work with non-assessed assistance measures and with a strong focus on collaboration with our municipal primary schools. We are now looking for two therapists who are eager to join the team and continue to develop the work together with us.

Family support consists of two teams, where you will be part of a team with eight family support workers and a team leader. Family support offers assistance in the form of parent groups and advice and support conversations for families, as well as support for children/youth in child groups and through conversations. A major focus will also be on collaborating with approximately three primary schools in the municipality together with a colleague to reach more families. All support offered is voluntary and non-assessed, therefore no records are kept.

The team belongs to a unit with two teams of family support workers and the municipality's family centers. The operations work together to ensure that citizens receive quick, accessible support tailored to them and their needs. The unit collaborates extensively across operational boundaries with our other colleagues within social services and many others who are around families with children in the municipality.

Your Responsibilities

You will have a mix of tasks and to thrive here, you need to enjoy days that vary between support conversations, standing in front of large groups to explain what support is available, preparing parent groups, and then leading them. We work with children, youth, parents, and families as a whole. A large part of the work involves reaching out, building relationships, making the support known, and motivating families to accept support. We also often act as the face of social services and the municipality and work with the trust of social services among our citizens. Collaboration with your schools is also a significant part of the assignment, and the content of the collaboration may vary over time and between schools.

Who are you?

We are looking for someone who is confident in meeting many different types of people, both citizens and professional partners. It is an advantage if you have experience motivating and working supportively with parents, as a large part of the work consists of this. It is also beneficial if you have interacted with children in your profession and can work relationally and supportively with children of different ages. You should also be comfortable speaking in front of groups and independently seeking contacts and relationships. This applies to both groups of adults and children.

Personal qualities:
- We are looking for someone who is skilled at and has experience in quickly building relationships and trust.
- You also need to be flexible, creative, and good at adapting your work to the needs you see in the target group.
- For us, the needs of the citizens come first, which may mean that we have to adjust our plans. However, to avoid losing families or tasks, you also need to create structure in your work.
- We are also looking for someone who is unpretentious and not afraid to roll up their sleeves to prepare materials for groups and the outreach work.

Requirements:
- Social worker or equivalent education and experience deemed equivalent
- Experience working within social services with children and youth as well as parents or experience with the target group deemed equivalent

Meritorious:
- Training in group activities such as All Children in Focus, Komet, Parenting in Sweden, or child groups (Coping Power Program is particularly meritorious)
- Experience in supportive, motivating, or therapeutic work with children/youth and their families
- Experience collaborating with other professionals
- Multilingualism
- B driver's license

Working hours vary, and some evening work occurs as most group activities take place after school and work hours. It usually amounts to 2 evenings/week during the semesters, but it can sometimes be more. Weekend work may also occur.
