We are now seeking a PhD candidate in Mathematics.

Your Responsibilities

As a PhD candidate, you will engage in your doctoral education and the research projects you are part of. Your work may also include teaching or participating in other departmental assignments, up to 20% of full-time.

The research will focus on one of the research areas in mathematics represented at ALGD. Applicants are encouraged to investigate which research directions are represented at the department and to motivate in the application which of these areas you are primarily interested in.

Your Qualifications

You have completed a master's degree or finished courses totaling at least 240 ECTS credits, of which at least 60 ECTS credits at the advanced level in a field related to the doctoral subject. These 60 ECTS credits must include an independent project, thesis, of at least 30 ECTS credits in a subject relevant to the field, or those who have acquired substantially equivalent knowledge within or outside the country. This also includes courses or thesis in mathematics-oriented, applied subjects. The eligibility requirements for the position must be met by the time the employment decision is made, that is, when the employment contract is signed.

You should have a strong interest in fundamental research. As a PhD candidate, a good ability to work independently and drive projects forward, to engage with new questions, and a good collaborative ability are required.

It is advantageous to have a thesis relevant to the position and international experience.

Great importance will also be placed on personal qualities and suitability.

Applicants must have a very good ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing.

Your Workplace

You will be employed as a PhD candidate in mathematics at the Department of Mathematics, Division of Algebra, Geometry, and Discrete Mathematics (ALGD). The division consists of about twenty teachers, researchers, and PhD candidates. Our research focuses on a range of different subject areas such as algebra, geometry, topology, combinatorics, and graph theory. The Department of Mathematics (MAI) - Linköping University.

About the Position

Upon taking up the position, you will be admitted to the doctoral program. Read more about each faculty's doctoral education here (https://www.liu.se/forskarutbildning).

The position is limited to four years full-time. You will initially be employed for one year, and thereafter the employment will be renewed for a maximum of two years at a time, based on the achieved study plan. Extension of employment up to five years can occur based on the degree of teaching and departmental assignments. In special cases, further extension may occur.

Start date in August 2025 or by agreement.
