Specialist Physician/Consultant at the Lung and Allergy Section

We offer a position as a specialist physician/consultant at the Lung and Allergy Section, which is part of the Department of Medicine.

The section conducts investigations and treatments of all pulmonary diseases. There is a ward with 7 beds for pulmonary patients, a lung and allergy outpatient clinic, oxygen and home ventilation outpatient services, as well as a lung oncology day care unit. We have a modern bronchoscopy unit with fluoroscopy capabilities, and there is advanced simulation equipment for bronchoscopy training at the hospital's clinical training center. Since 2024, the section will also conduct EBUS examinations. Starting in 2026, there will also be the possibility of PET diagnostics at the county hospital.

In your role as a pulmonologist with us, you will have the opportunity to deepen your knowledge and develop within pulmonary medicine as well as work with acute internal medicine. The Department of Medicine has good staffing of specialist physicians in all internal medicine subspecialties. In pulmonary medicine, we work patient-centered and together with all staff categories in the unit with a team perspective.

Since 2019, the hospital has been training medical students. The Department of Medicine also has a significant educational responsibility for rotating residents from both hospital specialties and primary care. This means that there are often one to two rotating educational physicians in the unit. Consequently, the position includes educational duties where you are expected to supervise medical students and residents. The tasks include participation in internal medicine on-call duties based on qualifications.

About You

We are looking for a specialist physician in pulmonary medicine. You have good judgment and can communicate clearly with both colleagues and patients. Collaboration skills and initiative are other important qualities. Specialist competence in general internal medicine, experience in teaching, research, and medical development work are meritorious. Great emphasis is placed on personal suitability.

Your Future Workplace

The Department of Medicine is the largest clinic at the county hospital with around 350 employees. Here, specialized care is provided in all medical subspecialties. The catchment area includes approximately 160,000 inhabitants. Since 2019, formal medical education has been conducted at the county hospital and within the Department of Medicine. The clinic's physicians form the basis for all student education.

Joint training occurs several times a week. The section has five lung specialists and one allergologist. In the various outpatient clinics, there are specialized nurses. We have a well-functioning collaboration with, for example, radiologists, oncologists, pathologists, palliative care physicians, and Linköping University Hospital.

The County Hospital in Kalmar is one of three hospitals in Kalmar County. The hospital is an emergency hospital with specialized care, maternity care, and postnatal care.
