Safety Specialist with a Focus on Chemical Safety

We continue to develop the safety department at KTH with additional expertise in operational safety and are looking for someone who wants to work as a Safety Specialist focusing on Chemical Safety!

Safety Department - A New Department Since January 1, 2024

The Safety Department, which has assignments in operational safety, physical security, information security, data protection, personal safety, security protection, and crisis management, fulfills a broad function within the security area at KTH.

As Sweden's largest technical university, there are many challenges in the security area but also a whole range of opportunities for the department to contribute to the operation being able to go a little further, becoming a little better in a safe and secure manner. The foundation of safety work at KTH is to create a safe, secure, and aware environment and operation for students and employees. Our department belongs to the Operational Support at KTH.

Job Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Implement, support, follow up, and coordinate the work with the management system for chemical safety at KTH.
  • Coordinate permit applications for chemicals at KTH.
  • Monitor relevant legislation in the chemical area.
  • Coordinate and develop the group for the schools' contact persons for chemical safety.
  • Support chemical safety issues, including gas.
  • Support the institutions' work with KLARA, develop and participate in KLARA collaborations.
  • Collaborate with safety representatives and support during safety rounds of laboratories.
  • Assist in risk assessments of chemicals and other hazardous substances.
  • Support with other tasks in the operational safety group at the department.

Qualifications

Requirements

You should have:

  • A university degree in the relevant field or equivalent as assessed by the employer.
  • More than 3 years of experience in the chemical safety area in government or industry.
  • Very good knowledge of legislation regarding chemical safety.
  • Experience in monitoring relevant legislation.
  • Experience in collaboration with safety representatives and support during safety rounds of laboratories.
  • A strong ability to collaborate with both employees in operational support and the operation.
  • The ability to support a focused mindset, both the knowledge to describe legal requirements in an understandable way and the ability to implement effective solutions.
  • The ability to assist in risk assessments of chemical products.
  • Good knowledge of Swedish and English as they are used in daily work.

Personal Qualities

It is important to be self-driven in the work, the operation is extensive and the ability to collaborate with the various operations is central. Flexibility in quickly making new directions and seeing new answers to the challenges that may arise in the operation is also an important ability that we are looking for. We are looking for someone who can communicate clearly as you will need to describe legal requirements in an understandable way to the operation. You should also be able to see the whole picture and have a problem-solving analytical ability in this position.

Meritorious

  • Knowledge of legislation regarding biosafety, radiation safety, and laser safety.
  • Experience working in the chemical management system KLARA.
  • Experience coordinating and administering internal and external inspections and supervision.
  • Work experience at an educational institution.

In addition to the above, it is meritorious if you have education as:

  • Occupational health engineer, laboratory engineer with special competence in chemical, radiation, laser, and biosafety. Safety advisor for hazardous goods.

About the Employment
