Job Responsibilities

As a university lecturer, your main responsibilities will be teaching. Teaching also includes supervision, examination, course evaluation, and course development. Collaboration is an integral part of the university's research and educational mission, and as a university lecturer, you will actively contribute to the university's development work. Your tasks will also include general administration and professional development, as well as participating in the daily activities of the subject and academy.

Product development is an interdisciplinary field that includes mechanical engineering, design, management, and production. The position involves work with education and collaboration. We are looking for someone with broad expertise in the mechanical engineering field, as we have courses covering the entire area integrated with courses in sustainable design and innovation. Your tasks will include:

Teaching courses in the subject with a focus on product development, process development, and design, as well as courses in mechanical engineering, such as construction, materials technology, and strength of materials.
Supervision of students conducting their thesis work.
Supervision and teaching in practical work related to the prototype workshop.
Contributing to the further development of our mechanical engineering programs with a focus on innovative product development.
Contributing to student recruitment and collaboration with high schools.

Eligibility Requirements

We are looking for someone who has demonstrated pedagogical skill and holds a master's degree or equivalent competence.

The pedagogical skill must be documented in such a way that the quality of previous work can be assessed.

To be employed as a teacher at MDU, a higher education pedagogical training or equivalent knowledge is required. Those who are employed but lack higher education pedagogical training will be offered to undergo such training within two and a half years of employment. The higher education pedagogical training at Mälardalen University corresponds to ten weeks of training.

For this position, the following eligibility requirements apply, in addition to those established in the Employment Regulations at MDU. Candidates must have:

Master's degree in product and process development, mechanical engineering, or equivalent
Good ability to give presentations and orally explain a subject.
Good oral and written communication skills in Swedish and English at the level required to perform regular tasks in teaching and administration.
Requirement for employment is the ability to teach in Swedish and English.

Assessment Criteria

The assessment criteria will include both the degree of skill required for the position and the ability and suitability otherwise required to perform the tasks well.

In addition to the assessment criteria established in the Employment Regulations at MDU, special emphasis will be placed on the following for this position:

Teaching experience in courses within the subject with a focus on product development, process development, and design, as well as courses in mechanical engineering, such as strength of materials, construction, and materials technology.
Experience working with production processes for additive manufacturing, forming processes, and laminating.
Experience in practical handling of workshop machines.
Experience in the impact of production processes on material properties.
Experience working with student recruitment and collaboration with high schools.
Experience from universities in areas such as supervision and teaching.
Work experience from the industry.
Experience in international projects.
