Job Responsibilities

As a university lecturer at MDU, your main responsibilities will be teaching. Teaching also includes supervision, examination, course evaluation, and course development. Here, research and education are closely intertwined, and research forms the basis for our education. Collaboration is also an integral part of our research and educational mission, and as a university lecturer, you actively contribute to the university's development work. Your tasks will also include general administration and professional development, as well as participating in the daily operations of the subject and the academy.

The position involves work in education, research, and collaboration. We are looking for someone with broad expertise in the mechanical engineering field as we have courses across the entire area integrated with courses in sustainable design and innovation. Your tasks will include:

• Teaching program students in courses such as CAD, machine elements, strength of materials, materials technology, construction
• Supervision of students and doctoral candidates
• Collaboration with external academic and industrial partners
• Contributing to the further development of our new educational programs in mechanical engineering with a focus on innovative product development
• Contributing to research in mechanical engineering and product development
• Drafting research applications and conducting research projects

Eligibility Requirements

We are looking for someone who has demonstrated pedagogical skill and has obtained a doctoral degree or has equivalent scientific competence.

The scientific and pedagogical competence must be documented in such a way that it is possible to assess the quality of previous work.

To be employed as a teacher at MDU, higher education pedagogical training or equivalent knowledge is required. Those who are employed but lack higher education pedagogical training will be offered to undergo such training within two and a half years of employment. The higher education pedagogical training at Mälardalen University corresponds to ten weeks of training.

In addition to the requirements established in the Employment Regulations at MDU, the following eligibility requirements apply for this position:

• Doctoral degree in mechanical engineering, product development, or equivalent.
• Documented experience from research collaboration with academic and industrial partners in mechanical engineering or product development
• Knowledge and experience from both education and research in mechanical engineering or product development
• Experience in teaching at least one of the following: CAD, materials technology, strength of materials, machine elements, construction
• Experience in securing external funding
• Good ability to give presentations and verbally explain a subject.
• Good oral and written communication skills in Swedish at the level required to perform regular tasks in research, teaching, and administration. If Swedish language skills are lacking, employment can still occur provided that the employed person has the ability to actively acquire these skills. A requirement for employment is the ability to teach and conduct research in English.

Assessment Criteria

The assessment criteria will include the degree of skill required for the position, as well as the ability and suitability otherwise required to perform the tasks well.

In addition to the assessment criteria established in the Employment Regulations at MDU, special emphasis will be placed on the following for this position:

• Experience in planning, implementing, and developing courses for program students and professionals.
• Experience in supervising doctoral candidates and participating in the implementation and development of doctoral education.
• Experience in project management.
• Experience in international collaborations in research and education.
