The training consists of a full-day overview of Stockholm City Library's operations and the Book-It system, as well as practical days with a mentor at a local library.
Your role
As a librarian assistant, you will focus on our visitors. You will staff the information desk and greet our visitors at the entrance to guide them correctly in the library. You are there to provide a positive, accommodating, and professional reception. You assist with everything from basic IT questions to book loans and ensure that everyone receives the help they need. IT questions may involve how to use digital aids such as computers and mobile phones, internet search engines, and printing documents. In addition, you will work with practical tasks, such as shelving books and keeping the library in top condition.
Your skills and experience
We are looking for someone who has:
- ongoing education at a university/college in library and information science, literature, or cultural studies (attach proof of study)
- good knowledge of Swedish in both spoken and written form
- basic IT skills (digital aids such as mobile phones and computers, internet search engines, document printing, etc.) to assist our visitors with simple inquiries in a pedagogical manner.
It is meritorious to have:
- experience working in a service profession supporting/guiding/helping people or other experience deemed equivalent by the employer
- additional language skills (besides Swedish)
- experience working in a library.
Your personal skills and abilities
You feel comfortable using and working with digital aids such as computers and mobile phones and using internet search engines. You have a strong service focus and greet both visitors and colleagues with warmth and kindness. You are proactive and self-driven, handling varying tasks and situations with confidence. You enjoy taking responsibility and see every challenge as an opportunity to solve problems and improve the experience for our visitors. Your communicative and pedagogical ability is a great asset, as you meet people from all backgrounds and with different needs. During stressful periods, you remain calm and act professionally. You are creative and development-oriented, always aiming to enhance the experience for our visitors. It is a significant advantage if you have an interest in literature.
